    Please Help!

I'm trying to get my .htaccess redirects to work, and they just won't ever since I moved hosting companies. Something like:

    RedirectPermanent /index.html http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/name/index.html

    does work, but something like:

    RedirectPermanent /~name/cgi-bin/cart.cgi http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/name

    or:

    RedirectMatch (.*)/~name/cgi-bin/cart.cgi http://www.mydomain.com/cgi-bin/name

doesn't and I don't know why. The server is running Apache 1.3.19. Is there any setting that the host could have enabled that would restrict things so that my .htaccess file would not work as expected? I'm going nuts trying to figure this out!

P.S. I'm adding these lines to the .htaccess file in my httpdocs directory. That should be global right?

I think the root of my problem here is the ~ in the URL. It works without that. But I need the ~ in there because that's the path that needs to be redirected. How can I make this work?

SOLVED! The way to get around this it to set up a user named "shop" and put an .htaccess file in that directory with the appropriate instructions.
