detecting mouse events on main vertical scrollbar?

is there any way possible to detect mouse events for the main window's vertical scrollbar? i specifically need a way to capture a mouseup event from the scrollbar in firefox...which doesnt appear to exist.
From here on, it's instinctual...even straight roads meander.

There is no reliable way to detect events outside of the web page as most browsers don't pass such information to the page. The main scrollbars are a part of the browser window and not part of your web page so most browsers will not pass events from there. The only way that you could do it would be to set up your web page so that it has its own scrollbar inside the page itself so that the browser scrollbars are not needed.
