    2 Quick Questions

    Hey,

    2 quick questions:

    1. How do I "inherit" the properties from another CSS thingy I've defined? Like how would I get a block with an id of footer to inherit from this:

    Code:
    #botcell
    {
    	border-bottom-width: 2px;
    	margin-bottom: 15px;
    	background-color:#C7C8BD;
    }
    2. How would I make something stay 10 pixels from the bottom of the page. Like bottom: 10... Or something?

    I don't know the answer directly for #1 but yes to #2

    Code:
    bottom: 10px;
    works beautifully!

    in answer to #1...inheritance happens automatically for all child elements, but it cannot "cross" from one group to another. i.e. if you have a completely different element you want to inherit botcell's style, you need to redefine it.
    annoying, i know...i would love to be able to just define something like a colour once, and reference to that in various other classes...so if i want to change colour scheme completely, i'd only have to change the first definition...

    1) Just comma separate the selectors
    Code:
    #botcell, #thinggy2, .etc {
      /* ... */
    }

    /* Or if you want everything */
    * {
      /*...*/
    }
    2) Bottom of the screen or bottom of the page? For the former, use Run2Web's suggestion, but add "position: fixed;"--doesn't work in IE. For the latter: "position: absolute;"

    Work for ya'? :-)

    It is off a little in Netscape 6 also, not that Netscape 6 is a big deal.

    hehehehe well I don't normally even test for "Nutscrape" but today I have all browsers open. Just wish I had IE 6. I should get it anyway (boss doesn't like it )

    Jeremy: I have no idea. Maybe if you figure yours out it will shed some light onto mine (not working in IE 6)

    It looks better but now this boxed area is shifted to the right about halfway into the blackline on the right.

    Just noticed another thing. If you resize the window the absolute positioning of the footer causes it to cover up some of the content:

    Jeremy,

    Try going through and setting your z-indexes to auto. I don't know if it will help you in your situation but it did fix my problem of things overlapping where they shouldn't.

    Ok good. You might want to add a few more pixels at the bottom for this Block

    "This site, the logo and the "Keeping It Simple!" byline are copyrighted. This is an NMC Group, Inc. Project."

    At 800 x 600 the bottom line is cut off on that block. (using IE 6)
