I'm trying to understand the different licensing options for SQL Server. I am a one-person web-development operation, so my needs ar fairly minimal. I have a SQL Server account with my web hosting company.

If I understand correctly, I should be able to use the Developer edition to create databases on my desktop and export/migrate them to my host. Is that correct?

I need to be able to connect and move data between my desktop and a server on the internet. Will the Developer Edition allow this?

Also, I've been using the trial version of Embarcadero's dbartisan. It's very nice, but at $1,800 well beyond my budget. I've used it mainly as a replacement for Enterprise Manager to build, test, and migrate tables. Is there any comparable software package available for a lower price?

Thanks for your help.
