    page doesn't want to validate?

    My site has a flash object embedded into it and is the thing stopping it from validating, is there a way around this?

    Yup. Just be careful though. The Satay doesn't allow for the browser to detect the plugin version, nor will JAWS play the Flash file.

    There's also a typo in the last code example on the article that will cause a validation error (not to mention cause the Flash file not to play) if it's copied verbatim. If I recall, it's an attribute value that wasn't opened/closed properly.

    And is that Rex Grossman (I hope you guys do a number to peyton manning and the colts) Sadly, the Chargers (were upset by the Pats, grrrrr.) still have some growing to do, but I think well do so much better next season (our team is young)

    Yes, that is Rex Grossman in the avatar. If you want to talk about next Sunday's game, head over to General Chat and look for my Super Bowl XLI Tailgating Thread.

    Here's an even more updated technique:
    HTML Code:
    <embed src="file.swf">
    (And an even more updated validator to boost.)

    Working drafts are nice, but at this time are purely (in my opinion anyway) an exercise in academics. I'll join the rest of the world and go with what works until this is ready for prime time and becomes widely adopted by the browser manufacturers.

    You're right that the referenced spec is not ready for adoption yet.

    However, <embed> has been adopted by browser manufacturers like ten years ago and is way more interoperable than <object> today...

    You might be interested in the thread I started in the Flash board about detecting the Flash player plugin version using Flash then. Too bad it's been largely ignored.

    I think the best for embedding flash is swfObject:

    It validates and avoids the need for the user to first "activate" the movie, among other great features.

    I did create a rudimentary <embed /> several years back and did include a type attribute but why I didn't include a fallback I don't know.
