    Joomla on SQL Server ??

    Hi all

I wasn't sure where to post this but if anybody has any information thanks?

Can I install joomla on my sql server 2008 express edition which ships as a free server with Visual Web Developer express edition?

Not quite sure how this works? Has anybody installed Joomla on their local host?

    Where can I find information?

    Cheers

I have installed Joomla locally to test, but it was on XAMPP which ships with MySLQ. Not sure if Joomla supports SQL.

Yes I came accross this, does mysql get installed with XAMPP and PHP (meaning everything is ready to run and create databases and run sql, php code etc.)?

Yes. XAMPP terns your computer into a local server for testing and developing. It installs in a few clicks:
    1. Apache
    2. MySQL
    3. PHP
    4. Pearl

Also includes other applications such as PHPMyAdmin and different FTP clients for different platforms.

It is a great application. Try it!

    Will do thanks banago

I've been watching a few videos and trying out the demo sites Joomla offers... nice piece of kit. Just hoping to create some of my own templates have you created any yourself how do you go about it?

How simply is it to switch a standard static site over to Joomla, again this would be my own template keeping all my css intact, if that makes sense ???

    Cheers

Also why do you prefer WP over Joomla?

Welcome - I enjoy helping people.

I understand that. I fact I have never coded a Joomla template. I installed Joomla, Drupal, ModX and a couple others (and WordPress of course) just to chose which one I would employ as my primary CMS tool. As you know, I chose WP.

Also why do you prefer WP over Joomla?
I don't know - I found it easier, nicer, more powerful (lots of free plugins and themes). I might be also because I think I was working on blogs and needed a blogging software, which after that became my CMS tool too.

    That's it!
