jQuery Cycle Images Plugin

By Sam Deering

This is a great plugin for displaying a collection of images in one spot and having them rotate display (ie “cycle” through the images). So it’s basically an awesome stylish easy to install image rotator.

The jQuery Cycle Plugin is a slideshow plugin that supports many different types of transition effects. It supports pause-on-hover, auto-stop, auto-fit, before/after callbacks, click triggers and much more. It also supports, but does not require, the Metadata Plugin and the Easing Plugin

How it Works

The plugin provides a method called cycle which is invoked on a container element. Each child element of the container becomes a “slide”. Options control how and when the slides are transitioned.

  • I’ve recently learned about jQuery Cycle myself. I’ve stumbled upon it several times before, but never used it. I was compelled to write a custom transition module ( ) for it that opens up some neat looking transitions like those of jqFancyTransitions and Nivo Slider.
I have to say that not only is jQuery Cycle easy to use for the casual web author, it also abstracts away a lot of book-keeping and UI woes from plugin developers.
Overall a well-designed and easily extensible jQuery plugin.
