Text Ads from AdSense Showing Little Icons?

I just noticed that a Honda Civic Hybrid ad on my site at http://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/ is now showing a little red car icon next to the black title. Since when do icons fall under the category of "text?" And now Google is ignoring our color choices? What's going on?

I don't like this at all. Google just keeps doing things to tick me off. Do they not understand their own definitions of "text ads" and "custom colors?"

Cool. (For those who don't see it, click into the "Honda Civic" forum and refresh a few times).

is the image.

I'm not entirely sure what that is. I've never seen it before, or any other icon for that matter.

Yeah .. it's weird. I picked certain colors for an ad design, and it used black. And I see those little icons too. I saw an ebay icon and a disc beside a launchcast ad.

I saw that icon after few refreshes but that's different from what I thought you were saying.

Yesterday I saw an icon, like 2 windows with an arrow (labelling external links? or popup?) at the bottom left of an Adsense leaderboard. Weird.

I guess somebody should contact Google about it, and ask why it has been introduced without any form of consent from the publishers.

They don't need permission

It looks like they're testing new features. I can't see the image, so they're probably rolling it out slowly.

Yes, I saw these this morning as well. Gave me an idea, think we might do the same for our text boxes where we have a story image :-)

They don't need to do anything for the publishers, really, but I'd say they'd still benefit from at least notifying publishers before going live with it though.

Maybe it is a tracking type of code? I do not see them in rotation on any of my sites. Strange.

Seems like quite a nice idea if publishers can choose to switch it on or off.

You're kidding, right?

You can find a better excuse than that!

I'm seeing these on my sites as well. I keep getting the register.com logo (blue "r" with a red period) next to their domain name ads. I certainly don't like the appearance -- it wraps the title text, bumps the ad lower than the other 3 -- but it did attract my eye to the ads.

It will suck for webmasters that have made the ads appear like site content. They won't blend in any more.
