How to insert a blog in a current website: Methods used

Hello,

I already have a website made in standard (X)HTML/CSS coding techniques.

Now, I would like to add a blog page to the website.

What options do I have?

I want to keep the current design and the blog to be on the current hosting also (I don’t want to integrate something external).

You can install a blog app(like Wordpress) into a directory on your server named whatever you want the URL to be:

For example: yoursite.com/blog/ (blog being the directory name)

Or you can install a blog app (like WP) and use it as a CMS, using your sites current design as the theme(which you also have to do for the first option), the pages feature to add your current content and then the blog features for the new blog section.

The second method will be a bit more involved but in the end easier to manage and backup/restore. :slight_smile:

I think the first method would work for the moment.

What others good blog application do you recommend? Is Joomla gonna be a better solution in my case?

As well, how can estimate the time that would take me to do such a job? How difficult it is?

I have never used Joomla, so I cannot say.

I use WP :wink: and have a fondness for it, as it allows me total control over the layout/design of my site. It is fairly easy to use (I think).

The amount of time it will take/difficulty depends on your current designs complexity and your skills with HTML/CSS/Wordpress or (blog app of choice).

XHTML/CSS skill are good. I have some experience in working with script inseration, as well.

I have a client who wants a blog in his website and I don’t know what to charge him.

Can someone give me a rough idea about the total time should take this customization? Hours, days?

probably wordpress would be ok but might not look right on your site, joomla or drupal would work if you were to redo your site you could just use them for everything they are really powerful. Sounds like you don’t want that though, so prob wordpress.

I don’t want to redo this website. I worked to much on it and I don’t know how long is gonna take me to integrate it in a cms.

For future I will use a CMS probably Joomla, but now if you guys think that I can make it in Word Press and I have the freedom to make the design look like the original design I would stick with it.

I just want to know how much is to work with this one. Some estimates would be really appreciated.
