Will directory web sites bring more traffic?

If we exchange links with some directory web sites, will the directory web sites bring more traffic us? Thanks!

some really good niche directories do give you traffic but most of that are webmasters

directories help in getting back links they are not helpful for gaining traffic… for traffic social networking sites are helpful

I have never seen any traffic from directories to my sites. I guess submitting to directories could give you a good backlink which help you rise in the search engines, if you do it correctly (use anchor text and submit to relevant directories/categories).

Very few dirs have traffic : dmoz, yahoo, business, joeant.

This. The way in which listing yourself in DMOZ can get you more traffic is by increasing your own PR, resulting in better listings and therefore more traffic over time.

this days directories dont bring much traffic but instead its just good for one way link though its still not much…if you really want to get traffic, learn how social media works…

Directory listing never gives you traffic they just gives you back link. DMoz is i think is one of the most well known directory its never gives me even a single visitor, what you can say about others.

There are less high page rank directories now after the wave of penalisations that happend.

Unless you mean the “brand new PR5, 6, 7’s” which are set up on dropped domains to rip people off and trying to “sell pr” which caused a lot of problems in the first place.

What makes a directory “trusted” for you personally?

I own a web directory, dont exchange links with them (reciprocal option) instead submit with the free listing option or if its a quality review directory then choose one of the payment options.

As an owner i know they will send you little to no traffic, dont submit to a directory for traffic, use them to get links back to your site, the increased serps over time will help inprove your search engine traffic.

Be selective over the ones that you submit to, even if its free, if they dont edit and accept everything then dont use those ones.

Dont submit to the hundreds of .info ones which are part of networks or the weird sounding named ones or “brand new pr5” types which of course is impossible, dont submit for pr reasons either.

Dont rely solely on directories for backlinks either, mix things up a bit.

You can get traffic from directories if they are niche directories and they rank well in Google. As was mentioned, people will use Google first. If a niche directory pops up on Google, people may click on it and search it.

I would only use directories for back-links. Getting any good, converting traffic is a impossible.

Adding my sites to directories has never been my main priority as they are only any good for a link its visitors that i require so i tend to use other methods to get traffic,i am not saying dont do it but its not the most productive method of gaining visitors to a site.

Quality Does Matter, if that directory is having quality traffic and very good rank it will definitely bring traffic to your website.

A BIG majority of web directories are good for nothing, i.e. they pass no link juice and absolutely no traffic … in fact even the quality web directories (which are very few in number) rarely send traffic to your website, all a good directory can do is to offer some link juice via dofollow back link

It will get traffics if you have submitted your directory in good websites. It is also a useful method.

it will make sure that you add your site to well known directories

yes you can get some handy traffic and pagerank through directories, you should have a try

it doesn’t seem to be a good source of click through traffic, but in some case the links help.

when was the last time u look for info, sites, products…etc. from DMOZ or any other directories?

never! u use google.

same for 99.999999999999999999999999999999999999999999999% of others.
