Weird referral links to two of my sites

Hello, I hope this is the right place to post this since it talks about my referrals!

Looking in my analytics recently I’ve been getting lots of referrals to my site from this site: <snip> but it has nothing whatsoever to do with my site nor does it have any sort of link to me on it.

I thought oh maybe I had one of those dodgy wordpress themes or plugins so I downloading two plugins (ironic!) that checked the site files for odd links, nothing, so I deleted all themes/plugins that weren’t active and thought that would be it, I had 16 referrals from them on friday!! Literally all my visitors come from this link!

I thought this was all odd enough but now I’m getting the same referrals to my other site!! which isn’t run on wordpress! :S

I don’t understand!! Can anyone shed any light on the situation?

Hi xhan, welcome to SitePoint!

As I understand it, these links are from dodgy operators who are hoping that you will click on those links and provide a bit of extra link juice to their worthless sites. Whatever yo do, don’t give them any joy by clicking on them. My sites get tons of this rubbish too. Spammers are at you from all angles, but just ignore them.

(I removed your link to them, as the last thing we want to do here is promote them!)

Thank you I think I feel better now at least that my site hasn’t been hacked!

Though surely this kind of thing can’t do them any good in the long run?

I agree with Ralph. Unfortunately we will never be able to eradicate spammers. We are surrounded by cheaters and people who would rather do sneaky things instead of working hard to make their site successful. As with other aspects in life, not giving these people, or links in your case, more importance than they deserve will help you make smarter decisions for the benefit of your site.

Thanks for an information and as of now i am feeling better now at least that my site hasn’t been hacked! But i am also quiet sure that this kind of thing cannot do any good in long run …
