I have created back links for my website for 15 days now. Should be minimum 20-40 links. But the google wabmaster tools says no links under traffic-> Links to your site.
I have also tried with some other tools and they also dont show any links.
Any ideas are greatly appreciated. There are no errors anywhere in webmaster tools.
PS: I am not posting the site in case some moderator removes the post.
In regards to your opening post, it can take anywhere from a couple of days to several weeks depending on a couple of factors:
Site authority from where links are coming from.
Type of backlinks. Are the links sitewide, image links ect.
Whether the sites where the links are coming from are crawled often and have heavy traffic.
These are just some factors and I am sure others will post more info that would apply to your situation.
Personally I would not worry about it too much because many times Google Tools won’t catch all of the links that you have and is why many people use other backlink checkers such as Majestic and Seomoz.
[]you’re being too impatient, and Google hasn’t got there yet
[]you’ve created links on dodgy or worthless sites that Google doesn’t look at
[]you’ve created links on sites where external user-generated links are marked as “nofollow”
[]the owners of the sites where you’ve created your links have removed them.

firstly like others have stated backlinks will take some time to show up, also there are other services and one that I personally like and use is ahrefs its very good for viewing your backlinks and you can get much needed information from this website.
Give us some of the link building methods you where using ? Article submission is best I found to get backlinks quickly, idea is to get backlinks from already indexed pages or pages that will get indexed quickly e.g. forum posts on popular forums, article directories, etc.
For this new site, I have not started any article submissions. All the links are from forums and web directories. I set it to preferred domain in webmaster tools and still no luck.
Many forums, like SitePoint, set external links to “nofollow”, so they will not show up as backlinks to your site. Some directories may adopt a similar policy.
That’s true. However, in my (limited) experience, “nofollow” links do sometimes show up in Google Webmaster Tools (which is what the original question is about). I’ve occasionally seen forum posts (both Sitepoint and elsewhere) that contain links to some of my own sites. I can see that those links are “nofollow”, but they have still appeared in GWT. I don’t know if this is typical behaviour, or if the links just fell through the cracks somehow.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that Google is giving the links any value - merely that it has detected that the links exist.
Thanks Mike - that’s interesting. I’ll have to take a closer look at some of the links in GWT and see if there are any nofollow. (The vast majority of my incoming forum links are in Swedish, Russian or Japanese, so beyond checking the the forum is legit and on-topic, I’ve paid little attention to them, not being able to speak any of those languages. :))
