Links from non existing webpages

Hello,

I am talking about the Google Webmaster tools. I havent got insane yet with that seo
My question is:
I have few links from other sites (inbound links) showing on my webmaster tools in the list of “Links to your site”. Some of them are coming form webpages which dont exist anymore or have a changed content (without the link).
What does it mean please? Does it mean that Google still counts the non existing links, OR does it mean that Google havent updated my webmaster tools yet?
Do these non existing links still have effect in Google rankings?

Thanks for any help

This may be because the websites shown approved your backlink in past and google indexed it, but after sometime they removed your backlink but google didnt checked it yet, may be that is the reason it is showing up in google webmaster tool, once google revisit those pages where your backlinks are now missing then it will update its record.

So what you are saying is that Google does consider those links at present.
There are sites which Google may not revisit because they have new pages all the time, maybe even every few seconds. Google may not bother revisit those old pages again. What do you and others think?

The page’s which are old and updated frequently would be definitely crawlled by google to update google’s record for that website.

It doesn’t really mean anything. Google’s definition and reports of inbound links through the various sources on the internet is probably the LEAST accurate of all. Pay no attention to it.
