Web design?

Hello all,

I want to get into web design. I am a fantastic artist and I’m great in the technical field as well. I can’t afford to go back to school right now, but is there anything else I could do to break out into the industry? Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance.
David

Hi David,

There are tons of amazing books out there. When I was first self-learning webdesign, I preferred the project based books that would help me learn as I was working through the examples, rather than all-encompassing reference books. Check out the Sitepoint books … they are extremely helpful. If you get stuck, Sitepoint has many very helpful people to answer your questions.

Have fun!

Hi,
If you learn to use Photoshop, some HTML and CSS, you can enter in the web design industry.
Just try to study some ebooks about Photoshop, and html /css. Then, the rest will make your imagination.

You are about to enter in this new designing field, web designing means you need to have the knowledge of html, csss and photo shop, there are many books online websites where you can go and start learning, or if you need any expert help many people you ll find who gonna help you out to figure out things. For html and css you should start reading tutorials from w3schools its great website has tons of knowledge. You can start from starter level there.

w3schools would not be my recommendation. This site suggests a number of more reliable resources. Other good on-line resources include http://www.htmldog.com/guides/ and http://www.iraqtimeline.com/maxdesign/basicdesign/. You also don’t need to learn Photoshop. You will need something for editing graphics and optimising images, but if you’re short of cash, GIMP is an excellent free option.

TB, you linked to my site! I’m honored. Wish I had a better domain.

Well, they’re darned good tutorials.

Looks OK to me. But don’t ask my advice in choosing a new one. My first domain name was, I thought, entirely innocuous, but my internet security software barred me from visiting it, on the basis that it might have content about “weaponry or violence” or somesuch. It had nothing of the sort - unless beeswax candles can be considered an offensive weapon  - so it must have been the domain name. Mind you, that particular software was rather over-enthusiastic in it’s duties. :)[/ot]

Well, blackmaxdesign.com is currently available - go for it.
