Setup router to forward wifi users to local ip address?

Hi,
so i have a small database for event timing that runs using USBwebserver. I am not connected to the internet but we network a couple of computers to allow different jobs to be done such as entering the rider number as they finish as someone else prints out the results or another screen to show results to the riders.

Last year i had a wifi router that people could connect to and browse to the local ip ‘webpage’ something like
http://10.0.017:8080/results.php which obviously isn’t pretty to type in on your mobile phone.

Is there a way to setup the router to automatically forward them as soon as they connect to the wifi spot?

I’ve looked at captive portals but they seem to be overly complicated as they are for full internet rather than just a single page on a local ip.

any ideas?

This depends upon the router you are using. There are some on the market that allow you to redirect users to a specific IP address/URL. What router are you thinking of using?

Hi,
its a netgear or i have a BT homehub 2.0 but i think from my investigations that the home type routers don’t normally have that option. I’ve had a look in the menus of both routers and their doesn’t seem to be the option available.

thanks

When the people connect to the WiFi do you want them just to be able to see the page and nothing else regardless of the address they your in or do you want to be able to give them a friendlier URL?

yeah just the one page they shouldn’t be able to navigate anywhere else (it’s not connected to the internet anyway but i only want them to access the results page running on the local computer).

I think the HomeHub 2.0 has the cable connection feature, but if not does the Netgear? Also I am assuming that you will be running the website on a ‘server’ of some sort.

If it does there may be another option open to resolve this for you
