Reliable Shared Hosting Company?

Try one of these

*HostGator
*BlueHost
*DreamHost

If they are offering amounts that are 100x-1000x what small websites etc. need then and small websites like you mention are their target then that is dishonest IMHO then. We’ve seen multiple people come to us from such hosts where they’ve been told things such as, “Sorry you’ve got too many files”, “Sorry, your files are too large”, “Sorry, you’re using too mich CPU” - and that was just downloads, no PHP.

Of course not all are the same, but if you’re really needing such levels of space/transfer then you’re better off generally paying for it and not relying on someone letting you use that much when they only budget for a fraction of it.

I think if you avoid the ones trying to sell you the moon-on-a-stick for $5-15/m pretty much any host should be able to cope with a simple portfolio site, just avoid the ones that are offering unlimited and/or stupidly large amounts of space/transfer and I don’t think you’ll go far wrong.

Some unlimited/moon-on-a-stick hosts are indeed unreliable and/or slow. Others are quite good, and make sure that people get their $5-10 worth. A host’s offer, be it overly generous or not, means very little on its own, without feedback from customers.

If anything, these hosts target exactly the sort of customer who hosts a small website (a portfolio fits the bill), not the Googles and Facebooks of this world.

I went with Hostgator’s hatchling plan despite them offering unlimited bandwidth/diskspace

Best of luck with your website and host!

That means that you need to read more reviews and do not pay too much attention on what web hosting company really offer.

Thanks guys I’ve used Bluehost and Hostgator before so I’m familiar with their services. I went with Hostgator’s hatchling plan despite them offering unlimited bandwidth/diskspace

Very pleased HostGator user. I am thrilled with their service and support. Have been “testing” them for the past 4 years.

Please check the ‘Hosting Review’ forum of sitepoint and you will get some nice host as these reviews are impartial and fair.

Good luck.

I think that you have very good budget and that will not be a problem at all for you to find decent web hosting company. But I see you are going to use some kind of web application. In this case make sure that web host will support that.
In any case you will be able to simple specify that by contacting your web host.

There are lots of hosting providers around that meet that simple requirement.

I have been using BlueHost for the past few years and have had almost no downtime whatsoever. (They also offer identical hosting as HostMonster and FastDomain and sometimes one of the three “brands” offers a special for new accounts).

Other providers with a similar reputation include HostGator and LunarPages

I’ve been using http://www.lacehost.com for a few years without any problems.

Hi,

Thanks,

I’ve used Site5.com for years. I’ve been very impressed with them. It’s been very reliable for me. However, it depends on which server you’re on and how full it is.

Thanks for the help guys. Hostgator is working great so far.
