My page rank just dropped from 2 to 1 I have been working on this site for several months adding links seo crap and now today I drop a page rank what the heck did I do wrong…I cant link to t shirt companies that’s like adding your competition to your site…I’ve been trying to add shopping sites but today a punch in the face…if anyone can look at my site www . cherokeeschild . com and tell me where i went wrong…this is oooo so confusing
You might have used bad SEO practices… like getting many links in a short period of time and they penalized you.
It might also be because someone who was linking to you removed their link (or their site disappeared).
Google did a lot of strange stuff with the last PR update… there are now website directories with PRs as high as 8 or even 9. Crazy, unexplainable stuff.
Thanks I beleive that since this is a major part of our livelyhood they ought to be required to give us an explaination so if we did something wrong we could fix it
Well, Google does what it wants.
Edit: I’ve done a little research on this… it seems that you are not the only one, but a few others reported that their PR got back after a while. Strange stuff.
Why does it matter if the (possibly) fictional and (almost certainly) out-of-date figure that Google has published for a measure that barely counts towards the ranking algorithm has gone down?
PageRank is not important. What matters is where your site appears in the search results for common and relevant queries. If that has dropped as well then yes, you may need to do some work to try to build you ranking back up again. But if your site has held steady in the results page then there’s nothing to worry about.
Great said, Stevie. Now try to make advertisers understand that PR is not important.
Did you do some SEO recently? If so, what are those?
I’m not sure how we can pinpoint the exact problem without giving us more details.
It sounds like you are saying you are linking to other sites? Hope this is not the case.
I dont link to anyone without their permission I do alot of link exchanges I don’t like it but it’s googles rules link popularity
I have not seen any rules saying that you have to link to link out of oyur site for link popularity. Do you have a link to the source for that please?
I was also under the impression that link exchanges were actually frowned upon by Google? But I could be wrong abou this.
if link popularity is an important factor and your competition links to over 4000 sites and you are new to the business with not much traffic then someone tell me how else are you to get links
Excessive reciprocal links or excessive link exchanging (“Link to me and I’ll link to you.”) - Is a violation of Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. See:
Link schemes - Webmaster Tools Help
Link popularity concerns the incoming links to your site from others and not the otherway round. By linking out you are effectivly giving away a little bit of juice with each link that you could be sending through to one of your internal pages.
Anyway there are a few ways of gaining one-way back links which I’m sure have been discussed at length elsewhere but include things like: (not in any order)
Guest blogging
blog commenting
directory submission
forum profiles
forum signatures
PR dissemination
Article marketing
Link bait
Video marketing
white papers
social bookmarking
many more (but lists like this not good for forumn threads)
