You’re domain name is going to have very little to do with your search rankings - which is what I’m assuming you’re referring to when you ask how to SEO your domain. If everything else were equal between two websites (which is essentially impossible) then maybe the website with a keyword in the domain would win. But it just doesn’t work that way. Look at sites like Facebook, Google, Yahoo, Flickr - those domains don’t describe what they do at all.
When you set out to optimize your site for search engines your goal is to make it as easy as possible for search engine spiders to find all of your content. Additionally, you attempt to gain authority by producing content amazing enough so that other websites will link to you. Keyword injecting (such as in the domain name) will get you nowhere.
I’m not criticizing your domain name. It sounds like you got a short domain that’s readable. My only concern when you make the extension part of the spelling of the name is that people might have a tough time remembering it. That’s another conversation for another day though.
My point is that you shouldn’t (can’t) rely on the keywords in your domain to optimize your website. For instance, the content on Wikipedia is what makes it rank so well, not the fact that the domain name kinda sounds like encyclopedia.
Actually people on other forums have different views So it’s 50 / 50. Some said that it’s similar to deli.cio.us. At first it’s like WTF but then it’s like ohh … and the XXXXX.XX ( dot ) is in the logo. So that part is covered.
Maybe I’ll just get a back up… like a Plan B.
ANYWAY!!! Back to the original problem…
Now I just have to figure out how to get the website to show up in a google search. Dont’ care what page. It’s not even showing up.
Is Google crawling your website? You can find out by signing up for Google Webmaster Tools and submitting your site. You’ll be able to submit a sitemap and see access logs telling you how often Google crawls your site. If your site has something to offer (likely) then Google may index it.
So there are two different problems/questions here:
Is Google crawling your site? If not, then submit some of your pages to social bookmarking sites, submit your sitemap to Google and start building backlinks. These are all entrance points for Googlebot and will get your site crawled.
Is Google indexing your site? If Googlebot is crawling your site but not indexing it then you probably have some content issues. Are you providing duplicate content already found elsewhere? Is the content your offering adult related or illegal in nature?
First step is to see if your site is getting crawled and go from there.
Even with a spanish domain name you can target the country of your choice with Google Webmaster Tools. The localization of your domain name makes little to no difference in the Google world. For Yahoo and Bing it may be a different story.
Wow. The domain extension does make a difference. A dotcom will beat a dotws with 20 times more links in any country. The keyword in the domain makes a world of difference. The reason large sites like your examples get away with it is because they have hundreds of thousands of backlinks, but if with 2 sites that are pretty much the same, dotcom’s, and about the same backlinks the one closest to the keyword will rank better.
tke71709 has a point that the keyword your domain is after sucks. Find a different domain that is a dotcom or worse a dotnet or dotorg and target it after a far better keyword!
Get a site up with some content that isn’t crap. Then start building backlinks. Backlinks will get you indexed and ranking well.
What examples or source do you have to show that the extension makes a difference? How about the keywords in the domain? I’d be interested to see this.
I think at the end of the day you’re fine with the domain name you have, whatever it is. Just be sure to register it with Google Webmaster Tools to correctly geo-target it and do all the normal diligent SEO things such as accessibility and backlinking.
If you had a domain like this, and relied on the domain alone to rank for your term, then you better hope your term is “cardriv”… The domain extension (TLD/ccTLD) does not make up part of the domain “name” that “may” give you some benefit.
It’s going to take a few days then. You could submit some pages of your site to social bookmarking websites to add more entry points and get crawlers to your website. Additionally, tweeting a link on your website will do the trick as well.
Keep in mind that crawling your site and indexing your site are two different things entirely. Generally, Google will index at least some of your site so you should be okay. Once part of your site is indexed you’ll see all the features of GWT light up. (:
You can’t force Google to crawl or index your site. Sorry.
It sounds like Google is crawling your site though, just not indexing it. It’s a little strange for Google not not index any part of your site. The indexing is dependent primarily on the Pagerank of your page. Being that your page currently has no PR it may take some time. Still, I’m a bit surprised that nothing is being indexed.
Google Webmaster Tools is going to have more accurate results than a public search on Google.com. I guess my recommendation is to continue creating content. With Googlebot crawling your site on a regular basis you’re bound to be indexed once it finds something it likes. (:
