PHP Help for beginner - setting up local PHP server

Hi,

I need to set up PHP on a local server, so I can live preview it from my text editor (I use Adobe Brackets).

Can someone help? I’m a huge noob so please explain it as simplified as possible!

Additional info:
Need to do this as I’m creating my own WP theme (for personal use)
Currently use Bluehost as a server
Already have FileZilla installed

Best thing to do, since you are a noob, is to head over to http://www.wampserver.com/en/ and download that package. Install and start using it in few seconds.

And can I download this on a Mac?

For a Mac you’ll need MAMP.

You can also look at XAMPP. I use it. I like it. They have a version for Apple.

Thanks for the help - I have now downloaded MAMP on my mac… but I have no idea what to do next?

You need to install it as per the instructions. As you’re planning to run WordPress you will need to install that on your local server and set up a database for WP to use.
