Opinions/Suggestions on Site Layout? :3

Hai there! My name is Stephy, and I’m part of an indie game development team. I’ve been (un)officially coined as the Marketer and PR–mostly because I have a lot of free time, have some artistic talent, use social media often, and go on quite a bit of forums.

I do other things, too, but because our group does not have anyone who can do graphic or UI design, I thought I’d try.

Anyway, that means I’m an amateur, which means I’m having a lot of trouble deciding how to layout our team’s site. I have a current layout, though it’s set to private until it’s publicly ready. That’s what images are for!

I also think something is missing in the “body” area, where the content and blogs will be.

Without further ado!

As I mentioned, I’m not very good at this, or making logos, or color schemes, so anything given to help is appreciated!

Thanks a bunches for reading and helping!

I am not the right person for UX but being a freelancer for very short time, i used to do research on how visual designer put together things to make designs lively. For this, i used to search for the sites, where freelance designers put their designs to showcase like http://dribbble.com or http://behance.com or http://themeforest.net and many other portals.

With little much experience with visual designing, i would suggest you to go through these sites and look for similar concepts. May be you will get some idea out of this research.

Happy Learning!

Hi,
my first thought looking at the images was that if you put that on my screen (22inch) the text is going to be pretty big. I’m certainly not the best at this but what i did was to start with a big screen size canvas (1920 x 1080) on photoshop and then design from there so i know that the font size i am putting on the canvas are going to be the size they are on the finished webpage.

I kind of like the early 90’s platform game type theme but i think it could be expanded a bit further. Perhaps a background instead of the solid grey, could be 16bit blocky type graphic or a game character.

Not sure what font you are using but i would try and pick ones that you can upload or link to like google fonts so you don’t have to do everything in images (you might already be doing this but just in case).

@Lokesh - Thanks for those links! They may be more useful than what I was doing; which was looking at pages for video game developers to see what they did. Thanks for the well wishes!

@Noppy - Ah, yes, the font. It did seems a bit big. The font in the “body” area is from Google Fonts, but the rest were images. It seems images are sometimes easier for me to get the “look” I need. XD I guess the reason the font in the “body” area is rather large is due to not knowing how to fill up the space there.

Like I mentioned, I know something is off, but I just can’t figure it out.

Sorry if I’m double-posting, but I thought I’d show you my latest concept after going through the links @Lokesh linked me too. XD

New Concept

I think it’s the best one so far. I think. >>

For me it’s far better than the previous ones. Nicely done @Melaniipon
