Rethinking Web Layouts

There’s so much great stuff on YouTube, it’s overwhelming. I stumbled on this video of Jen Simmons, where she looks at the ruts that web layouts have fallen into, and how to get out of them. Comparing typical website layouts with magazine layouts, and looking at what’s new in CSS, she presents some interesting options for spicing up our website layouts.

So if you have a spare hour, check this out:

I’d be interested to know what you think. At first, I was thinking that we spend so many years trying to get away from print layouts, but she does address that in the talk.

Thank you so much for this video! It’s definitely worth checking out to both beginners and accomplished professionals of webdesign.

It makes quite a difference visually to be able to wrap text like that.

haha)) I just loved that flashback into the history of www and design patterns, really a lot to learn from!

I just finished the video off. There really are some great ideas in there and there’s one I saw in that very last piece on Bill CUnningham, I’m 100% absolutely stealing, right now!

That was a new one for me too. There are a few nice new css things that seem to pass me by. Then I discover them and: “I can do that with css?”
Not fully supported, but one of those things that won’t explode if it’s not.
