Issue with static / integrated Meta Tags on multiple pages?

Hello world,

Brief intro of my issue:

I have a website (which has been developed in ASP classic) with integrated meta tags (Title, Description and Keywords - I can only modify them in the Admin Panel of my application).

Problem (or not)?

I heard that having integrated meta tags (same meta tags on multiple pages) hearts my SEO Rankings. Is this true?

Help would be greatly appreciated - Thank you in advance.

Yes.

If you have the same title, description and keywords set for every page, it’s harder for search engines to tell what each individual page is about, and so it’s harder for them to direct people to the most appropriate one for their query. They may give you a lower ranking than you would otherwise have got because they can’t understand your site structure. And searchers may then be presented with several pages from your site in the results, that all look identical. How are they supposed to know which one to click on?

The title and description should be unique to each page. If you’ve got the same title and description on multiple pages, why have you got separate pages?

Thanks for your reply Steve.

This is a Auction Site with multiple pages. I tried erasing all meta tags in the admin panel in order to put the brand new meta-tags code (made some online), but I don’t know where to put them (I use Dreamweaver). Would you happen to know how to fix this issue - where to put the new meta tag code (on which page)?

sorry Steve, I forgot to give you the site url: www.cargosuccess.com

Is this an ASP issue? If so, we should move this thread to that forum. Otherwise, the meta descriptions go in the <head> … but I don’t think that’s what you are asking.
