Like we are doing link building, can we do forum profile linking? Forum profile linking is good idea or not useful?

There are thousands (if not millions ;)) threads about this topic. This is too repetitive to allow another threads about the same subject. Thread closed.
Why would it be useful? Surely the only reason you would join a forum is to interact with the community?
A forum profile is a meaningless page and even if you joined several thousand forums a day you’d get absolutely no benefit from doing so. Any idiot can spam forum registration forms or make comments on “dofollow blogs”, so there’s absolutely no reason why Google would see this as an improvement.
