it appears that this discussion ended last April.

You should be using a business page for any page that is, well, a business.
Personal pages not only behave differently but they cap out at 5,000 “friends” and lack some of the external liking tools. The facebook rules also prohibit businesses from directly messaging users; so it’s very possible a personal profile being used for business could be deactivated or converted by facebook themselves.
With that said, there are some implications of making the change, mostly in that you lose much of your existing content, wall posts, etc. Of course this can be recreated and the most important element – fans – stay in place. Before you move over it’s important that you understand not just the losses from the migration but the differences in how business and personal pages act. If you are not promoting a service you do not want to convert.
Mashable has a great post on the cautionary warning for making the jump.
Not yet and don’t plan because my profile … I don’t really consider it a business.
If you have a personal page it wouldn’t be relevant for this topic. If you page is anything else, including a business that’s just a hobby currently, it should converted to insure you are complying with the rules and have the brand page features.
Why not just create a separate business page for your business and just keep your personal facebook account for your own personal use. It really is that simple.
The problem that I have had is that Facebook REQUIRES you to enter a REAL NAME attached to any account. So when you enter the name of your company it rejects it in this text field. You can enter the name of your business later but the Facebook page still comes up under the name you entered “John Smith” as the main title and heading. It’s frustrating. I have seen that other companies have achieved a site with their business name as the title page but I don’t know how they did it.

By inserting the company name in the first and last name fields.
yea, I have tried but I think personal and business page must not be same.
Harry
no, it won’t let you do that - unless your company name is actually a real name (i.e. Bob Jones, etc.)
Facebook has some kind of filter that recognizes real names and it won’t let you enter a company name in the first and last name fields.
some names are not caught in the filter.
Use with caution and the article that Ted S says.
Gotta admit I wish Facebook had a business position /personal account. A lot of Businesses like to own the personal account that owns the business page.
I’ve heard some pretty terrible stories about this migration from profile to pages. My friend attempted this migration and lost a lot of content from both his page and profile as a result. He said it was a horrible experience! Can you switch back if you if you don’t like the results? Thanks.
Thanks for the warning . This is something I’ve been considering for our business for a while. I will now proceed with greater caution, if at all.
I did. But it didn’t work so I made another page for my business.
