Can I re-assign a vanity URL to my business page?

Omg, thank you Sitepoint! The facebook “help center” really sucks. Can you believe that they limit your questions to 60 (or so) characters? Like, what?

I hope ya’ll don’t mind me asking this question here.

Is it possible to re-assign a vanity url that I chose for my “personal” FB account to a business page that I create later?

I did not learn about business pages until after I create my “personal” vanity url. :frowning:

I know how to assign a vanity url, but I have to get 25 followers until I can assign a vanity url to my business page… Catch 22: if I can’t assign the vanity name to this business page, then I will have wasted time getting 25 followers!

I have a feeling the I am S.O.L…

I wonder if deleting the account will free up the vanity name? Maybe then I could re-create the account and then assign the name to my business page?

Sorry if this is not the forums to ask… The FB help center really sucks.

Thanks!
Micky

Hi Shaun, many thanks for the reply, I really appreciate the help.

I actually just found a solution the other day:

How to Transfer Profile Username to a Facebook Page

The biggest hurdle was getting 25+ people to “like” the business page. Once I got the peeps, I was able to change my personal account name (I guess you can do this only once) and then I quickly grabbed the name for the business page.

Pheeewwww… I was so stoked that it worked.

Sorry, I should have posted the conclusion here as soon as I got 'er figured. :frowning:

Thanks to everyone for the help! I really appreciate the assistance.

Cheers,
Micky

You might also be able to contact someone directly at Facebook. They keep their contact info well hidden, so you’d have to do some digging.

If you prove yourself as being a legitimate owner though, they’d be pretty helpful.

We’ve had to do something similar for a client’s Page sometime ago.

I wasn’t the one who did the contacting though, so I can’t give you more specific advice.

I don’t think you can transfer it. I think its permanent.

Hi eruna, thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it.

Ugh! That is what I suspected.

I really wish they made this clear… I thought the personal account was the way that businesses do things… Once I got the vanity URL setup for the personal account, I realized that it needed to be done differently (that is when I learned about business accounts).

I wonder if I could delete my account and start fresh? Would the name become available again? I will have to test with my personal account.

Thanks!
Micky
