Hello,

I was an instagram account with around 4,000 followers. There is nothing exceptional about my account.

I received this email:

I’m Jessica and I work for Fango, where top brands sponsor great social media creators like you. I reached out because we’d love to collaborate with you.

We’d love to sponsor a post on your Instagram profile about the WeSnap app. We’d like you to create a photo with WeSnap app and share it on your Instagram profile, inviting your followers to join you inside the app.

Our suggestion for this campaign is $100.

I’m very suspicious about this email considering it as a scam. Was someone received the same?

It might be genuine, but personally, I would never trust a company which uses privacy protect on its domain. What are they hiding?

Their street address (as given on their website) is this place: http://startuphouse.com/about/

Their “umbrella company” is less than impressive: http://www.globalchampions.co/#

I wouldn’t touch it with a 10-foot barge pole, but that’s just my opinion.

I got the same email. I have about 7k IG followers. I think they get paid to get sponsored posts for their clients in two ways. One, they get you to download some random app. Then two, they get you to tell your larger audience about said app. The app they’re promoting is from Istanbul.

To me, it’s not worth it for $100 to send my loyal fans to use some random app that I have to first download and install. An app I never heard of as well. They also only pay you through PayPal.

Thanks for the questions, I’m the founder of Fango & WeSnap. I couldn’t find my 2010 Sitepoint account and just created a new one to reply.

What are they hiding?

Domain privacy protection helps us hide things like our personal email and phone number. I used to register domains without privacy protection and I was getting “Offers for website owners” all the time. This is the easiest solution to that problem.

Fair comment. But to somebody who knows nothing about your company, it can be off-putting to see information withheld. (I know I’m not the only one who views such sites with suspicion.)

(If that information had been included, it would have made your claim - and e-mail - look much more credible. Just a thought for future reference. )
