Expired domain no answer from 1and1.com people

I had a domain with 1and1.com, but it expired on March 24 2017. i am sending emails to them and tweeting them but they are not replying. Then I decided to transfer this to godaddy, but when I go to 1and1.com website and click on authentication generation it creates error.

Have I lost the access to my domain name? or I still have the right to renew the domain for some days?

they didn replied and they changed my dns also. currently some sedo is parking my domain. Domain expired 2-3 days back.
whois says that my domain is still registered to me, but this website has some other story.

I think this is something you would have to take up with your registrar/hosting provider. Have you tried phoning them? From past experience with my domain names, I start receiving warnings about 90 days before the domain name is due to expire to give me plenty of time to renew, or make any other changes I needed to make.

I was also under the impression that expired domain names remain in limbo for several months after the expiration date before they become available for others to purchase. And the original registered owner may still have the opportunity to renew.

this is what ICANN says →

So you have at least 30 days to get it sorted:

Once your domain has expired, it will be in Auto-Renew Grace Period (for 0-45 days), followed by a 30-day Redemption Grace Period.

Looking at the whois page you supplied the link for:

Status autoRenewPeriod

Due to forgetting to change my credit card and email address I once missed the expire date but still managed to renew it due to the grace period provided by my registra.
Personally I go with a small registra as I find them very helpful although it may cost a bit more.

Anyway you had better start pestering 1&1 ASAP as it looks like they can be a pain. You should also look at setting the auto renew next time to help prevent this problem

Just had a search and found this page: https://help.1and1.com/domains-c36931/renew-domains-c85143/what-is-the-redemption-period-a594796.html

If your domain was registered with 1&1 and has expired unintentionally, you may re-register the domain name by completing a Domain Redemption Request Form and paying the redemption fee of $50. This redemption fee does not include the registration price of the domain that will still need to be paid to register the domain in your name for the next year.

It pays to read the small print; I would never go with a company that has this in their terms.

You could wait until it expired and try and buy it at the normal rate. But there are a lot of sharks around who buy domain names and change them into advert sites as they have a good history or charge a lot to get the name back.

I have paid the 10$USD fee to godaddy.com to make the transfer of domain to them, but they are asking for authorization code, and it looks like that their twitter handle and billing team is at holiday on weekends. what is your opinion when I have paid godaddy and the transfer fee in that case can I get the authorization code now?

I once transferred 2 domains from enom to godaddy and they were also expired at that time for 9 days, but enom didn’t made any hassle. Is there any upper body such ICANN to knock the door if they do not release the authorization code because legally looking I have already paid the Godaddy the domain transfer + domain renewal fee.

Technically speaking then I am not renewing with them, but with some one else so I dont think so that I have any legal obligations to pay to them.

You cannot transfer an expired domain. You need to renew it first (with 1 and 1) and then transfer it, I’m afraid.

I have transferred the expired domain many times at least 20 times in last 7 years. There is some fraud going on there. they re even not allowing me to renew the domain →

Are you talking about .com domains? Country-specific domains may have different requirements.

According to GoDaddy:

You can transfer an expired domain name if it is still in the registrar’s renewal grace period. Grace periods differ by registrar and domain name extension. However, once the status indicates that the domain name is in registry redemption, you can no longer transfer it.

However, I imagine you will still need to pay 1and1’s fees before they will release the domain.

Since you paid GoDaddy to transfer the domain, you should call GoDaddy. You might not be able to transfer the domain to GoDaddy right now but you should ask them what to do.

Yeah, really. I have paid for a 1and1 hosting plan but I will not renew it. In about 11 months they will be calling me trying to get me to renew and their sales people are aggressive. The sales person told me something that is not true.

I shamed them yesterday on twitter and facebook not only did they made the domain public and unlocked for transfer, but they also generated the authorization code.

You said you paid GoDaddy $10. That does not include privacy. Are you sure you paid for privacy? If not then it is your fault it renewed without privacy. Note that the registrar Google Domains (registration costs about $10) includes privacy for no additional fee.

You wont believe How much i paid godaddy for transfer and renewal.

I hope you got the best deal possible under the circumstances. At least you have learned from the experience. I have been in the situation of not keeping my domain renewed properly. It happens. Registrars are aggressive and will really take advantage of us whenever possible. We need to not give them the opportunity.
