Does anyone have suggestions on building a social media portfolio? Instead of being slowed down with a lot of pro-bono work, (although that’s a great way to build a portfolio), I was thinking about creating fictitious social media accounts for companies I make up just so speed things up. However, I’m not sure if this way is prudent. It’s just that I would like to speed things up without having to go back and forth with people I am designing for.
Also, is Social Media a real way to make a living these days, or is it just one more way recruiters use in order to get resumes?
You’d need to check very carefully with the TOS of whichever sites you were thinking of using, because I suspect some/most/all wouldn’t be happy with you setting up “fake” pages.

Good idea. Why don’t you just make up your own digital agency (if you still don’t have one) and set up some good social media stats using your very own company. In that way, you help your business’ reputation and online presence and at the same time serve as a portfolio.
Take the time to look at all of your work and carefully choose the right pieces for building a portfolio.It will be better to use some eye catching images for your portfolio.
Why do you recommend Quora? What is especially useful about it?
I’ve never used it, and it appears you can’t enter the site or read anything there without first signing up for an account, so I’d have thought that would make it of limited value. I’d be interested to hear your views.
@sheenagoyal13 - I think you missed the point of the OP’s question. He was asking how to go about creating a Social Media portfolio - not whether it would be useful to have one.
The question was asked back in November, so I expect he’s already decided what to do by now, but if you have anything helpful to say about the actual question, please do.
Thanks for all of your replies. As some of you know, I started a new job working mostly with graphics and Joomla.
However, the company I am working for does not yet know how to make a profit offering Social Media to their clients. Perhaps I can offer some ideas.
@Another_Designer, you’re making the most important steps in Social Media and that is wanting to develop Social Media portfolio.
I would like to mention here is that it is one thing to create the portfolio but utilizing it and making it work for you is quite another.
Take the time to research how to use the different platforms in tandem with each other to create a powerful and unique Social Media Environment. By making the different platforms work with and feed on each other creates a dynamic environment.
