Building a portfolio

Hi, I have a problem. I am a beginner in this field (working for client who needs a website). However, I know xhtml / css, photoshop (design layouts), a bit of WordPress. I would like to work for some volunteering, people in need. In this way, I would like to build a portfolio.

And here I put the question to the community of SitePoint, how to build a portfolio (that’s mean projects for portfolio :)), or how to find organizations this type?

Cheers,
Dave.

You could create your own or a mockup of different examples for fictitious companies like in the ‘The SPF Pure HTML + CSS Competition!’ and explain they are mere mock-ups. If you haven’t found enough real companies.

Albeit you don’t need a portfolio to gain jobs though it can help. Like you said you can visit local business and charities and ask them if you can help build or improve their websites, etc.

Unless you meant you wanted a web marketing company to enhance how you present/target your portfolio.

Hmmm thanks for help my mentor

Any ideas?

An excellent organization to create pro bono work for is the Taproot foundation.

https://www.taprootfoundation.org/intranet/index_vol.php

They’re in major cities and allow ‘talent’ to come together in full marketing teams with project managers, strategists, copy writers, designers, developers, etc. to come up with communication tools to help very worthwhile charities.

My wife and I have done several projects for them, and have met a bunch of great people and organizations throught it. Highly recommended.
