Best option for a 'forum' extension in Wordpress

Hi,
I have a Wordpress site and am looking for ideas for a forum software. I want to use the forum though just as a ‘page’ on the site. Would BBPress work for this? What are your experiences of BBPress as an extension for creating forums and are there better options? I don’t really want to pay for the software simply because the site exists as a support network and not to generate income.
My site is at:

I would appreciate any advice people can give as I really feel a forum would be useful for the people visiting my site.

It’s really late and I’m just about to collapse from exhaustion, but before I do:

The thing with with BBPress is that it binds your sites users with the forum very easily. In other words, users only need to sign in once to use both. Other plugins do the same (it’s called bridging) but I found BBPress to be the easiest. However, it’s a bit much for what you probably want and not everyone needs that kind of blog-forum binding.

For what you’re looking for I’d recommend VanillaForums. Make sure you grab the open-source version, or use their WordPress plugin. When I ran a vanilla for my plugins, I embedded it, so I can’t comment on the plugin but it looks good.

Vanilla is a treat to use (from a users perspective), looks good, and is easy to administer. The plugin looks like it’s just a matter of click-click-go so that’s a plus.

If you need something more dedicated (and easy to setup), there’s absolutely nothing wrong with installing a PHPbb forum in a subdomain and just pointing to that. I’ve done that as well…nothing says you need to find a WordPress only solution.

Still, I recommend you check VanillaForums out!
