Anyone with experience with Go Daddys Virtual Dedicated Server?

Hi guys and girls…

…ok so have several sites on Go Daddy in several shared hosting. All of them Wordpress based and the main site about 1000 unique hits a day…but it’s running soooooo slow.

Know that Godaddy are notorious slow when it comes to Wordpress…at least from what I can google my way to…anyway, a reverse IP check for the main website reveals that Godaddy has over 1300(!?) other sites on that shared hosting, with several adult sites…

And the website is growing and we’re going to open a webshop soon so think it’s time for a upgrade…

…and the thing is that I got a 300 bucks in a “refund” from them that I can put in to future hosting and that would be almost 2 years of there Virtual Dedicated Server (Economy Plan)

So, does anyone got experience with there Virtual Dedicated Servers?

I have never used. I can tell you what I have seen on various forums: they are belived the best domain name registrar, but their web hosting services get a lot of negative reviews last time.

While their shared hosting is indeed very slow, I don’t think that the 1300 figure necessarily is the cause. Godaddy uses a clustered hosting system, where your sites are essentially hosted on multiple servers, the database and the email being all separated. The 1300 figure would thus be spread on several servers.

Are those VPSes fully managed? AFAIK they’re not, you’re supposed to be the system administrator, which is not a job anybody can do without significant training and experience.

GoDaddy’s virtual server is actually fine with me. However, I also have issues with the frequent downtime. But they are often able to fix that one up quickly, so that’s really no big deal.

I would have to say that I have never used their virtual servers before but have used there shared hosting and reseller hosting. I would suggest going and finding reviews on GoDaddy’s support and find out what others are saying. If you feel that you are not going to stay with them then look for reviews on other VPS Hosting companies.

Hm, sounds like the rest of Go Daddy then!

…you know anything about the VPS alternatives I mentioned in the post above?

And thanks for the answer, will check it out!

Even if you have a couple of those, shared hosting should work just fine, and a good provider will probably ensure better website performance than an out of the box entry level VPS can.

That being said, if you’re keen to use VPS, I can recommend based on personal experience Liquidweb. Their offer is quite expensive at a first glance, but you can look for coupons at webhostingtalk.com, which make them quite a bit more competitive.

Other providers I would look into (and I did back when I was shopping for a VPS) would be Knowhost, Futurehosting and Wiredtree. There may very well be others too, but these come to mind right now.

I have used their virtual servers and they go down a lot, they also have support who know literally nothing and their connection speeds are terrible. If you don’t believe me feel free to check out some reviews on www.webhostingstuff.com for more info. I would go with a dedicated server at www.smarterdedicatedserver.com or something. I wrote a review of the top cheapy servers, feel free to read it at www.codingsmarter.com, should draw some light on the issue.

Thanks for the answers!

Dont think they are, they have something they call Assisted Service Plan, which I assume is a “fully managed” addon or similar, you can add, but nothing about prices for it.

But yeah, looking for fully managed VPS’s!

Cirtexs HostV has fully managed VPS for $29.99 month…and 30% of on that…

And Quality Host Online have fully managed for $24.99…

Know anything about those two hosting providers and there VPS’s?

I do believe that GoDaddy is a great registrar, but I have read quite a lot of bad reviews about them in WHT about their hosting. I think you should go for their reviews and find out yourself. I don’t use them, so really can’t comment.
