Both. Why should this be an either/or question? Both work, both have their strengths and both are suitable if different situations.
I agreed with Srirangan. You should always use as many types of advertising as the site layout and niche can support.
You should always use CPC programs such as AdSense, as it costs you nothing to setup and even low traffic sites can make at least a little money. CPA I recommend more for niche-based sites, as it is very easy to target your ads to your audience. As for CPM, I recommend that more for high traffic sites (100-500K+ visits per month), since the traffic alone can make you money with little effort on your part.
For specific niches & targeted traffic - affiliate programs, for general mainstream non-targeted traffic - AdSense.
I like both in different ways although I make more from affiliate marketing than I do from AdSense. The truth is that even with a single video on Youtube you can make some money by promoting products in the description where as AdSense will only be successful if you have allot of traffic.
I’ve got about 5 checks from Clickbank on one of my sites but I’m only 1/4 of the way to my first AdSense check

Well I would prefer affiliate marketing because you make more money out of it than ad-sense. Even though it is not easy at to generate a sale, especially if you have just started in this business.
I prefer to Google Adsense. As it is leading as the best online money making source. Affiliate marketing is good but we can earn little amount of money through it.
AdSense is passive money, Affiliate is active money.
If you want to earn big with affiliate marketing you
constantly need to work for it, e.g. build your list.
AdSense is more like set it and forget it.
However you can also spend lots of work optimizing
your AdSense which in return will increase your revenue.
So the more successful you want to become the more
work you have to do with both options.
Affiliate Marketing is always the way forward although it requires knowledge and more efforts than AdSense. I agree with DaStarBug in that AdSense it passive money and not ideal for “active” affiliate willing to make good money
I like to be affiliate marketer. When i like to get dollars than cents. Join good affiliate program and earn more money. I am work with this ebooks affiliate program and i am earning more than my physical income.
You sound like you could only earn “real” money with Affiliate marketing.

It depends on the site Niche. You can make good money with both Google Adsense and Affiliate Marketing.
I think Affiliate Marketing is always best.
You can earn money in both and it depends on what you are doing… If you have a big classified ads websites, forums, or new websites having hundreds of thousands of traffic per day - adsense is the best.
On the other hand, if you are selling your own products, AM is the best…
The only let down with adsense is, you can’t have full control of your account…google may terminate it for some reason you don’t know…
