I have a .tl domain name registered with name.com, who unfortunately dont offer whois privacy for the .tl tld. Does anyone know if it’s possible to get whois privacy for a .tl at another registrar?
The second question is… if I cant get whois privacy on my domain, what options do I have? I don’t really want my full name and address to be so easily accessible for a domain that i’d like to grow and become big.
The only thing I can think of is to register as a company and use the company details in the whois, which is less personal and more professional. Its an expensive option though, and something i’d only consider if the website gets huge/hugely profitable.
Just check any domain name registrar and ask them if they will be able to do that for you. Nowadays most of the domain name registrars can offer that for you for free.
Remember you will be hidden from spammers not from law.
Again… any hosting company that offers domain services will transfer, privatize and host your domain.
Just send email to hosting companies of your choice and ask them if that service is available.
Listening loud and clear. Most domain registrars offer the whois service for a domain extension during checkout, i’ve tried a lot and they don’t for .tl domains. I have contacted name.com directly and they don’t offer it. I dont see the point in asking hundreds of other registrars as I don’t see why they’d answer any differently. If they are able to offer it, it’s in their interest to offer it.
By the way, a helpful reply is a lot better than a fast one. You must’ve skimmed through my initial post pretty damn quickly. As if I needed an explanation from you on what whois privacy is; would I be trying to get it for my domain if I didn’t know what it did? The second question in my initial post was asking what I should do if I can’t get whois privacy for the domain, i.e. and alternative to whois privacy. You compleltey mis-read that?
Any reasonable registrar will have privacy options. I register all of my domains with privacy. I just can’t imagine having all of your info out on the web like that.
Most country TLDs do not have the option of private registration.
com, info, net, org, me, mobi, biz, mx, tv, ws, bz, cc, com.co, net.co, nom.co, and nl have the option of private registration. Most others outside of that list do not no matter which registrar you go with.
