Which e commerce platform is best for SEO?

In CMS WordPress is best for SEO. I have experienced it. How about in eCommerce? Magento looks best with more positive reviews. But i am not sure about its SEO. Can any body help me find a best eCommerce platform for SEO?

While you obviously wouldn’t want to pick a platform that was “bad” for optimization that hardly seems to be the first place to start. All the traffic in the world is nothing if you have a system that won’t covert people well, doesn’t have the backend tools you need to manage it or the customization to allow for your products.

With that said most platforms have extensive SEO support both natively and via addons / hacks / tweaks whether you go with the installed options [Magento / PrestaShop] or SaaS model [Shopify, BigCommerce]. I haven’t heard of any one leading so far in front in this area as it’s pretty straight forward for ecommerce to cover the basics and as much as the engine it’s going to be a big part of deciding which template to launch with.

There’s a WordPress e-commerce plugin (WP E-Commerce) that’s not as extensible and powerful as the ones mentioned above, but is pretty easy to build and configure, and it runs on WordPress, so it shares some of it’s logic. If you’re comfortable with WP, you’ll be able to make pretty decent e-commerce sites with this one.

And how does this relate to the SEO aspect, which was the main point of egroveforums’s question?

Because WordPress is (IMO) one of the most SEO friendly CMS around, and it’s e-commerce plugin is the easiest to customize. And from what I’ve understood, egroveforums already has experience with WordPress.

To my mind WordPress is the best for SEO. It’s user friendly, and once you’ve installed a plugin, it can do everything you want. It’s updated regularly, has a great community and many plugins available. Here the best CMS for SEO http://blog.diyseo.com/2012/09/best-cms-platforms-for-seo/

Please note that egroveforums is specifically asking about e-commerce platforms, not a general CMS with e-commerce plug-in.

SEO can be done for any platform. Its not like if we do in this platform it will be best else it will not be that good. A good SEO analyst can do SEO for any sort of platform.

Our business mostly customizes X-cart, Magento and PinnacleCart. We have had great success with both X-cart and Magento for SEO. We haven’t had much experience yet with PinnacleCart and SEO. We’ve only done customizations and modifications to that one so far, so I can’t comment on how good it is for SEO.

Recently we switched most of an old CGI cart to X-cart (we still have to use the CGI cart for the checkout for now and some other parts, long story) and the number of google links went from around 680,000 to over 2 million and it’s still growing.

The main thing you want to look for is how modern the html coding is behind the shopping cart, do they use html and CSS elements appropriately, and do they use canonical tags appropriately. If the answer is yes, then it can be likely molded to work for you for SEO.

I hope that’s helpful.
