If it’s a commercial venture, I’d go for the first. Don’t leave it too long, though, as someone—noting your interest—might jump in before you and then demand a high price from you. (It’s a greedy world, I’m afraid.)
EDIT: looks like they are gone already—the typical scenario of greedy people buying up the names cheaply in the hope of making a buck for nothing when you come alone. My advice: don’t pay them a cent. Let 'em waste their money. If you are creative, you’ll come up with something better. ![]()
Hey Ralph, thanks for the suggestion, these name is actually not what i was going for I believe they where already taking they are just similar at the name i was looking for.
Would you say a .com with one hyphen between two words is a better than two words together without a hyphen that has a tld as .net or .org?
I’m biased, because I prefer .com, but I’m not convinced it’s a problem to have a hyphen—at least from an SEO point of view. Obviously it’s nicer not to have it, as you have to keep explaining that it’s there if you are speaking the domain name, which isn’t much fun.
I see…The annoying thing is that the .com I want without the hyphen is just a parked page…I decided to get the one with the hyphen. Thanks for you advice, much appreciated!
I believe that is good to have domain name without “-”. That might be good if you are planning to use that domain name for your personal needs but when you decide to sell it one character will prevent you to sell that at good price.
I would try and get a .com without a hyphen. If the name that you are looking for is taken then consider adding a little something to it - for instance: getcookbook.com or cookingbookhq.com. That’s what 37 Signals does with Base Camp, High Rise, etc.
Alternatively, if there is a personal side to the site then you can put a name into the URL - davescookbook or thecookbookguy [a bit long].
Either way, I think a .com without a hyphen is the way to go.
COM domain name is better. But I suppose if they are brand new domain names there you may try to register both of them and then use one as core domain name and set some redirection for another one.
Another possibility, which I forgot to mention before, is to use a country specific url. There are a number of sites which do this such as bit.ly and page.ly [Libyan based - not so popular these days I imagine]. There are some risks involved and you would probably want to secure a .com variation, but it’s something worth considering.
You could use a tool like Domainr to help you find some quality domains: Domainr: fast, free, domain name search, short URLs, international domain registration
domain name will user friendly so no any “.” _" " -" use its hard to memorizing to user
so u can use cookingbook.org is right
Hopefully you have registered the name that you want =)
I will go for the first option if I want to monetize the site. All the best!
Yes I did KC Game. I went for the first option as well and will keep a lookout if the domain name without the hyphen becomes available.
The TLD itself doesn’t matter when it comes to SEO. Of course that .com domains are highly placed in the SERPs. Most sites use .com domains, so it’s natural for it to happen this way.
.edu are often large institutions, and they publish important papers etc. They will get high rankings because the content they have is highly relevant for certain searches and because people link to them freely, naturally.
I really prefer a .com over .org, especially if the site is going to be for commercial use. As always, try to come up with something that is clever, short, and related to the topic of the site.
go for .org domain as it is better to remember than - domain also good for seo
i will cooking-book.com as it is a .com domain. .Org is not good for business related website and i am sure that with this website you are looking for affiliate program.
Why?
Obviously, .com domains would mean commercial sites while .org are more commonly (and normally) used in non profit and/or organizations. So what are your goals really for your planned site? If you wanna make it a wiki or if this is a collaboration with some other people you might wanna go for .org-that would make a lot of sense to me. But if this is for commercial use (i.e you are into affiliate marketing) you should go for .com.
