Where do you go for inspiration?

Where do you go for inspiration and/or the motivation to keep moving?

I don´t mean design inspiration! Rather the kind of inspiration if you want to archieve your targets.

Mine goes like this.

  • Take walks in city or beach
  • Attend Church
  • Surf the web
  • Chat with friends and family
  • Visit relatives and friends

Generally live life.

If you find you’re stuck in the same place for too long then maybe you should change your routine a little to spice things up. Helps keep you active too.

Sunseeker 37m… A photo of this sits in a frame next to my machine. Every time I start to lose focus, I look at it and remember that my product can bring me the cash to buy one of these.

Of course, I also have the mantra: bindings, loops, conditionals. Does your view only contain these? to remind me to build my apps properly…

Rather the kind of inspiration if you want to archieve your targets.

There is really only one source. Customers and users before they become customers.

One guy was inspired to produce a shaving mug for retail sale. That’s a plastic cup you put soap and water in, then whip into a lather. It got killed off by “push button shave cream.”

Destined for land fill status, I got called in.

For inspiration I went to the barber shop. There I found the one business who took soap and hot water and whipped it into a lather. When I asked why I was told “customers expect professional tools for shaving.”

Slogan – professional tools for shaving – secured, I found barber shops were an easily targeted niche market. Repackaging and repositioning as a business building target for barber shops kept this out of a landfill. While he was at $9.95 and considering slashing his price, I went up to $49.97 and above.

That’s inspiration you can take to the bank.

  • Spend time with my family
  • Listen to music
  • Sing and play with my guitar
  • Reading
  • Write regarding stuff that matters to me
  • Take a walk in nature or the city
  • Attend church
  • Workout (I need to start again, I’ve been out of action:)
  • Hunt good pictures with my camera

Hum, come to think of it, my life isn’t too bad.
