When is the time to put up ads?

Hey guys and Gals :slight_smile:

I started a blog recently and wanted to get some expert advice on when/if i should offer advertising?
I want to allow people to advertise and give the money to some sort of charity but a friend told me advertising can cause people to leave the blog or be annoyed…

any ideas/guidelines?

is your site popular? how many people visit your site a day?
most ads do not cause your people to leave your site but some do like pops
do not place ads on your website untill your site gets alot of visitors simply because you will not make much money

My blog is very very new, not many visitors and i’m not planing on making any money for myself… i thought to ad some sort of a ‘donate’ button and give any money collected to a charity org’… do you think that is also a problem?

In lieu of a traditional banner ad, the donation button would be a good idea. But make sure you list what charity(ies) you’re donating to and even provide a direct link to the charity’s digital donation box if applicable.

it’s been 2 months since i asked this question, the traffic in my blog is slowly growing and no one has yet to object Adsense or Komoona… I didn’t make millions yet but i feel that once my traffic goes up i will sell some ads space and get some more clicks…

Try to increase you traffic as much as possible. My advice is once you traffic gets above 1000 unique visitors a day toss some ads up otherwise you may find them doing nothing…

Once you’re website will reach a good amount of backlinks to gain popularity and some very good traffic. Only after that you can consider adding advertisements to your blog.

your ADs should not be put in the very appearant place and ruin the theme in your blog. It would be better that your ads are appreciative. Don’t put your ad frequently, people maybe annoying about this.

Personally I don’t think it matters when you put ads on a website as long as you don’t go over the top. When ever I make a website I just place the ads on the first day of launch. As long as there are not to many or they are not horrid ads, then I think your users will not really mind, or most of them anyway. Most sites have ads on these days so people viewing it who come from the search engines or where ever you advertise it will just think it’s just like any other site. If I site has ads on doesn’t mean I’m not going to use it as I still use it no matter if it’s got ads or not.
