I’ve been using Dreamweaver variants since UltraDev 4 to code PHP and I really like the improvements CS5 has over CS4, but I am curious about the others. I know in the Windows world people have Notepad++, Eclipse, and Netbeans to name a few but I have only tried Notepad++ and Eclipse out of those three. There is the familiarity of the code view of CS5 and the other tools that have kept me with it.
So what do you guys think is the best development platform for PHP? I’m sure many of you prefer open sourced software but its good to hear what the general consensus is.
I use the paid for version of Komodo but it will be the same in the free edition. You can add a dark theme like me, http://www.dottedidesign.com/node/16 is what I used for my base and slowly modified it.
I use Notepad++.
PS: Thanks anthony Im going to check out komodo edit it looks cool
I also have Netbeans and Eclipse PDT, I like Netbeans because it is faster, the GUI is nicer IMO, and editing your editors color theme is much easier though not perfect. But I like Eclipse’s Class/Function/Var browser much better. I also can’t get any variables to display in my Netbeans Browser thing, I don’t know if there is an option.
I would probably use Eclipse or Netbeans more if I had a way to easily change color themes to a dark one, the ones they provide I dislike and eclipse too much work. I’ve downloaded ones over the internet and they don’t satisfy me enough.
Really my only problem with all IDE’s is they are too bright I can’t write on white for a long time.
Hey anyone know of a way to invert your monitor?? So i don’t have to monkey with all these settings? In Windows the Setting for Accessebility is very garbage for me, does anyone know an alternative?
I also liked using the code editor in DreamWeaver, but the software was too expensive for just syntax highlighting (I don’t need the other functionality it offers).
