I beg your pardon mate, are you being a touch rude, because you are way out of line. I’m from Australia and as i said i am a customer of webscribble i do not work for them.
So if you have something to say to me than i suggest you watch your manners mate.
I think this thread has run it’s course, and the name calling and insults just prove my point.
THREAD CLOSED
Due to the vendors request, I’m reopening the thread. Do NOT let the thread become personal or attacking again…
While we ignored this post for quite a while, mainly because we believe the majority of the posts here are posted by competitors (this thread used to have posts blatantly posted by competitors advertising their products, before SitePoint deleted them), mrmwangi’s latest post simply must be responded to.
I’ll address each of his points throughout this thread in reverse order:
So, today I went to download their latest version with a prayer that there had been an improvement. Alas, they have disabled my ability to download the script.
This is simply not true. In fact, all users can always download the software they purchased from their web site. We offer one year of free updates, which is very competitive compared to our job board products out there. We did come out with an update (our sixth for the year), to which mrmwangi did not have access because he has not renewed his updates for an additional year. He can always download the most recent version up to one year from his original purchase.
When I bought it in 2007, it came with a lifetime license. Today, they are asking for $144. This is a classic example of bait and switch.
If the product worked that would have been different. I can officially term webscribble as a bunch of crooks! - This is not a personal attack.
We totally agree with the first sentence here. Every license we sell is a lifetime license. This means once you pay once, it’s yours forever. What we are asking payment for is simply the upgrade (NOT his original license as is implied here). We have been actively developing the software over the course of the last year to year and half and have added dozens of new features. To receive this upgrade and support, there is a fee involved. The upgrade is entirely optional. mrmwangi is not required to upgrade and can in fact continue to use his license for the version that he purchased forever without any additional charges.
Now to address some of the previous posts:
- The webscribble webjobs is a spam magnet since none of their submit forms support CAPTCHA - this can be tested on their demo site.
We have this feature. For those interested, you can read about it here.
- If you submit an attached resume\cv, the notification is sent to the site owners email address, rather than to the job posters address.
Resume are attached with e-mails and sent to the employers. You can test this in our demo.
- The script does not support SMTP and uses phpmailer, so your notifications are bound to end up in spam\junk folders or not be delivered PERIOD.
It’s true that we don’t have an SMTP setup in webJobs at the moment. However, notifications are not “bound” to end up in the spam folder. This is simply a misstatement, and wholly depends on your host. As long as your host isn’t on an e-mail blacklist, e-mails will be delivered just fine. If an SMTP setup is desired, it is actually possible, it simply must be configured at the server level (in the php.ini file).
- The ‘featured employers’ new feature does not place jobs posted by the featured employer above the none featured ones. Further, their is no identifier that the jobs have been posted by a featured employer. In essence the featured employer ONLY shows up on the front page.
This is a good suggestion. We’ve implemented it!
- The new ‘Indeed Backfill’ does not respect the ‘Job Type’ when doing a quick search.
We agree that this would be great to have. However, this is a limitation of Indeed. Indeed doesn’t support categories in their API, therefore it is impossible for us to implement this.
- The script does not support loggin using email address rather than username - this should be an option for the site owner.
That’s an interesting suggestion, but not one that is often asked. We’ll certainly consider it for the future.
- Passwords are NOT encrypted in the database. Since nobody knows what all those encrypted files contain, I strongly believe that they have backdoor access to your site… (…hmmm… enough said
It’s true that passwords are not encrypted in the database. However, the insinuation that we somehow have backdoor access to the site as a result of these passwords is simply untrue. We have absolutely no backdoor access to any of our customer’s web site. The reason we keep password unencrypted in the database is because we have many customers who integrate webJobs with other applications. Having the passwords unencrypted makes such integrations much easier. With that said, it is something we’re definitely considering changing in the future. Additionally, the admin password is encrypted.
- When trying to log into the installed site, the log in button errored out since it was pointing to a non existant folder
I’m really not sure what this refers to unfortunately, so it’s difficult to respond to. I would recommend taking a look at our demo, you’ll see that it’s possible to login with no problems.
- The USERNAME IS CaSEsenSitivE therefore John JOHN JoHN JohN (e.t.c) are different users; to them, this is a feature not a bug
This was a good suggestion, and we added this a while back.
- When an employer adds a job to the system, the text is horribly distorted - I have a ticket open with them and they do not have any timeframe for a fix - This has been open for a week now.
This is probably a bug we used to have in our system. As you see in our demo, it has long been fixed.
- Support leaves a lot to be desired and is border line non functional.
Anyone with an active support plan (we offer free support for one year after purchase) can reach our support 9AM-5PM EST Monday-Friday by e-mail and live chat.
- Their forums have only 16 postings with the most recent being a year old
Our forum has over 2,000 posts, with the most recent being today (at the time of this writing).
This post has gotten quite long so it is hard to address everyone in this thread. As I mentioned at the beginning, we strongly believe some of these posts are not by true customers, but rather by competitors (too many posters here have signed up only to make a post in this thread and no others). With that said, if there are any true customers who are having issues with their software, we are here to help.
One of the biggest complaints that we’ve received from customers was our support, not the quality of the software. In the past year and a half, we have totally restructured our support department. We’ve brought on actual programmers to do the support, so that they can help you effectively debug problems. We’ve become very active in our forums, and have our software engineers actively post in them to help customers out. And finally, we’ve added a live chat which is available every business day from 9am-5pm. As a result, our customers typically receive a reply within an hour or less, and get great service. It’s been a total turnaround, and our customers are thrilled!
To back up our words, we’ve gone a step further. If you’re not happy with webJobs for any reason, we offer a 30 day unconditional money back guarantee. If you’re not happy for ANY reason, simply delete the software and we’ll give you a full refund, no questions asked! So to potential buyers, give us a chance. You’ve got nothing to lose, and we’re positive that you’ll be thrilled with our product.
If you’re making reference to my post, Dave, I don’t see the insult to anyone. Simple enough English if properly deciphered. I have no control over how anyone chooses to “understand” it though. But I’m gone all the same. I dumped the product eons ago so this is just dirty water under the bridge to me.
I use this http://www.dailywp.com/jobpress-proffesional/ for my site, excellent features and support, you can try it.
This old thread was an entertaining/sad read! I thought a lot of the comments look like fake accounts. (I’m not associated with the company in any way).
Some of you are splitting hairs though… For example:
1: The CHMOD problem, you just have to allow a folder to be writable in FTP, you could have searched Google in 10 seconds to figure it out! Usually their are install instructions with an application, always read those first before clicking around
(hopefully there was a readme.txt or something)
2: Complaining about a “text issue”, thats just a small CSS fix, not a serious bug.
3: “Lifetime License of Updates”, I’ve never purchased anything that gave me updates for life including the new versions, not even Microsoft does that.
4: “Shutdown”, I think this is smart (phpFox has a verification system similar), do you know how many sites now-a-days just rip-off software developers hard work? It’s for their safety!
I have no personal use for such an application, but all the negativity and seeing the authors response actually encourages me to get a copy, knowing it’s not a dead system and that the authors actually take time to respond.
Hello… I’m looking into purchasing a job board (webscribble makes one), but I’m seeing a lot of negative post, but Webscribble seems to have reasons for the negative posts. I’m brand new to sitepoint and I was attempting to respond to a post from yesterday and today, but for some reason the post has been closed and since I can’t ask either one of those party members now, I thought I would ask some older posts, so was your situation ever resolved and if so, are you satisfied now? Thanks
Hi John,
Thanks so much for considering our software! We’ve really been working hard to turn opinions around recently (see boats09’s post in this thread at http://www.sitepoint.com/forums/showpost.php?p=4737265&postcount=37), but ultimately it’s your decision of course. If you’re not happy, just ask us for your money back within 30 days of purchase and it’s yours.
I own a recruiting firm and am thinking about possibly building a job board, so I’m reviewing possible options. I have found a several post to be interesting. There are always two sides to every story. I’m referring to a post from yesterday and today that was closed. Both parties had mentioned the Better Business Bureau in their post. So I went to www.bbb.org and looked up Webscribble and what I found is NOT GOOD. In Webscribble’s rebuttal’s they make it seem as if in 10 years of business they have “only” had 16 complaints (I’m sure schubill’s complaint has yet to be logged which makes 16) over that time frame. The truth is they have 14 complaints in the last 36 months. That to me is a huge number I have owned a recruiting business for 25 years and never ever once have I had a complaint against me or any of my 12 recruiters that work here. One complaint - Ok, Two complaints - Red Flag, 14 Complaints in 36 months something is going on. Any attempt at justifying 14 complaints in 36 months you’re just making up excuses. Only one complaint in the last 36 months of those 14 complaints was resolved. Webscribble stated that they have 1000’s of customers or job boards (I find this so hard to believe that I’m calling you out on this). To complain to the Better Business Bureau you have to be fed up, and have reached your breaking point, so imagine how many clients didn’t go and file a complaint with BBB, but were given the run around or how many clients had to jump through hoops for webscribble before they helped them. When I purchase something I hope that company back’s it’s product and from what I see either Webscribble’s product don’t work or they sell you a product knowing they will nickel and dime you for extra money and that’s how they make their money. What really surprises me is that Webscribble stated that they have fixed the past problems of people that filed with the BBB and they are trying to change their image. Oh yeah how hard are you trying if there are still 13 unresolved BBB complaints and why not fix this individual (schubill’s) problem if it’s not that big of a deal like you are trying to make it seem, why spend so much time trying to fight this individual on these postings. In the post to me you claim you are trying extremely hard to change your image. I don’t see it that way, if your still having problems with clients and have unresolved issues with BBB. With the image that is portrayed of Webscribble on the internet or even with BBB they should be going above and beyond to prove their worth to clients/customers. Webscribble you are coming off looking awful (it looks like excuse after excuse). The negative publicity that you are getting is costing you people like me from purchasing your product. I’m not saying that the customer is always right, but in this case I’m going to say he/she are. When there is smoke, there is a fire (and with Webscribble way too much smoke).
I have found other job board scripts and am going to do some research on those sites and in the next day or two I will follow up and let you guys know what I find out. Anyone that is reading this post is obviously looking into purchasing a job board, what job boards are you finding that have good reviews. Thanks for any help and assistance that you can provide.
Schubill if you see this post please email with a number or email address that you can be reached at. I have an idea for you, I don’t appreciate having my time wasted (What you are relying on is people logging on to sitepoint and seeing your post, which is good, because you are hitting people that are looking at purchasing job boards and their doing their due diligence in research by reviewing this site (I will highly recommend sitepoint, I learned a lot), but what I would suggest… You need to do is send website traffic to potential buyers (recruiters and such) about your experiences with Webscribble and this can be done through social networking sites - Linkedin has over 100,000 recruiters and what you will need to do is join their groups, this will allow you to reach a lot of people in a short period of time, you can do this with other sites such as Facebook, twitter, Etc. and get the word out). I would also like to discuss possible split recruiting work with you. Please email me at your earliest convenience at johntaylor1961@gmail.com. Hopefully I was able to provide you with an option in your ongoing crusade against Webscribble. I look forward to hearing from you and hopefully doing business in the future.
Webscribble I don’t appreciate you having me waste my time by having me look you up on the BBB report only to find negative things out. You try to come off as only one complaint in the last year, that’s not what I found or saw. I saw 14 complaints in the last 36 months and only one that was resolved. I hope all your future customers look up that report, like you have asked them to.
Hi John,
I’m sorry if you felt that we misled you, that certainly wasn’t our intention. If you look at the report, you will see that there has been a single complaint in the last 12 months, and 13 total in the last 36 months. As shown in the report, all 13 have been resolved. None of them remain unresolved. You can see this right on the report where it says:
These complaints were closed as:
13 Resolved
As I mentioned before, we’ve been working very hard to make every one of our customers happy. We think it’s working, since we have only a single complaint in the last year, which we resolved amicably.
Boats09 - Regretfully, I can not even fathom the thought of using their products knowing what their business practices have been. And for them to try and present this “NEW Personality”, just does not cut the mustard.
NO Where when I purchased their script did they mention paying for upgrades, and as a matter of fact, I did continue to receive FREE upgrades until THEY decided to change the rules; at their convinience. I communicated in private with their team and expressed my dissapointment; and as such, so be it.
They Finally, after however long, opted to respond to a thread that they were fully aware existed. If you look at their response, most of it is a marketing ploy on trying to fix their image - most of the stuff they claim are working - were not until very recently, and those that they haven’t fixed, again after however long, are “good suggestions”. However, a pig in pink lipstick is still a pig (not my quote).
Therefore, to answer you questions…
was your situation ever resolved? Nope, and I refuse to pay for that which was not required when I purchased.
are you satisfied now? Yes, with Jamit - their competition and a wonderful experienced support staff - visit them at Jamit.Com
DISCLAIMER: I am a happy customer of Jamit.
JREAM - Since I am still licenced for the product, I think I can authoritatively speak as a customer; albeit a dissatisfied one.
The concerns raised by the genuine responders here are real and are not as trivial as you make them out to be! I can not even begin to tell you the hell that some of us have gone through with their product, infact it was more buggy than even the worst script you would think off - and majority of us who bought this script could never find it in ourselves to go live with it, and attempt to charge people to use. That my friend would have been day light robbery. Really!
FYI - when I bought this script, the idea was to integrate the database with phpFox - which BTW, I bought at the same time and YES they did have Life time licences and, like webscribble only added the Pay for “Upgrades and Support” later. We had the same kinds of discussions with them, and they grand fathered everybody who bought the script prior to them changing the rules. Luck for them they had the insight to realize that they could not change the game plan halfway through the pregnancy.
phpFox does NOT shut down access to your site, in that with webscribble, at their discretion they can litterally shut down your site even if you have a valid license - you want evidence? Google is your friend. If their server dies, which it has been know to do, your site WILL go offline (they may have changed this, BUT I know on several occassions, their server would be down and YES, our sites would be too - I would like to hear their denial about this.
Hey, if you want to waste your money like most of us did, that’s your call.
This IS a FACT! How is it that I purchased on Friday, October 26, 2007 and all over sudden on Thu, November 11, 2010 is when you decided to change the rulez.
For the record, I continued having downloading rights without them trying to charge me for 3 years, why would they do me this favor, if I may ponder? I am sure they will claim that they did it out of the goodness (sic) of their heart.
I will be happy to make public all the tickets, email threads, live chat conversations that quantify and validate my lingering concerns about the integrity of web$crible as an entity.
To sum this up, my experience with them can only be summed up as a calculated epidemy of ripping off unsuspecting customers.

YOUR ADMIN INFORMATION AND USERNAME AND PASSWORD are stored in an xml file that they have access to.
A couple of years ago, I opened a support ticket and asked them how I could change my admin password because what I thought it was, was not it. Guess what, they sent me my Admin ID AND Password - when I questioned how they got it, they claimed I had provided it to their support folks! Which, I know for a fact, I hadn’t - and everytime I give any 3rd party support team admin rights, I change the password before, and after, I give it to them.

May I request that we keep this thread civil so that the powers that be do not Close it?
If this thread can help just one person not go through the trenches of which several of us have passed, and if Webscribble is truly willing to redeem themselves, by clearly understanding and accepting what the issues are, rather than trying to pretend that they are lambs, whilst in reality, it is a known fact that they are wolves hiding behind lamb skins…
Thanks to sites like sitepoint, you might have hope of redeeming yourselves!
To sitepoint forum Admins:
Thanks for letting justice prevail and keeping this thread going! I hope you keep it active so that your past and future members can become or continue to be - INFORMED! “what you don’t know CAN hurt you!” (not my quote).
Disclaimer
I have nothing to loose by stating the truth and using this forum to address that which is true. Webscribble have my contact information on file, and are welcome to discuss any which I have stated here; publicly or privately.
Further, let it be known, that any information you (Webscribble or your employees, partners, owners, members, subsidiaries, representatives - collectively or otherwise know as “Webscribble”) share, or contact that you make with me, in public or in private, will be made public as part of this, or any other thread on this site, and\or any other site.
May TRUTH and JUSTICE prevail.
Let me clear up two items the mrmwangi raised that are not true.
First, his statement that we can and do shut down licenses remotely is untrue. In previous versions, we had a bug where the license was downloaded too often. We have since fixed that bug so that the license only needs to be downloaded/supplied once. After that, there is nothing we can do to “shut down” the web site, nor have we ever shut anyone down. In fact, we are so confident that this is the case, it can easily be tested. You can simply deny all outgoing connections to our server on your server to see that the software will continue running flawlessly.
Second, his statement that we have access to username/passwords in an XML file is untrue. In fact, when he contacted us for support, we were able to retrieve his username/password using FTP information he had supplied in the past. Furthermore, we even went on to explain this to him by e-mail. Unfortunately, he has chosen to ignore this explanation. I would be happy to post this e-mail correspondence (of course omitting his password) with permission.
Really? NO… really?
So far, all the dirt that I have stipulated here about WebScribble and Webjobs has been true, and VALIDATE with evidence - which, Webscribble have come back and reported as Webscribble and webjobs BUGS that have been “fixed”.
The more Webscribble refuses to acknowledge their past or present misdeeds, the more the Webscribble integrity should be questioned.
Yes, please make public the Ticket Number where I provided Webscribble information about my WebJobs administrator username or\and password:
Per legal advise, Webscribble should not share any of the following information, on this website or any other Webscribble website:
- My name
- My address
- My credit card information
- My password
- My phone number
- My ip address
- My website address
- My email address
- My Fax Number
- Any information about me that is personally identifiable
Now that we have that all out of the way, I have recalled back up tapes from communication from when I first made contact with Webscribble.
Before Webscribble respond to this, I recommend Webscribble look at this ticket:
Ticket ID: OCT-81747
Ticket Key: c741487e
Please concentrate on communication with Rh… from Webscribble and paste that entire communication here!
So yes, please let us continue with this! Let the Webscribble truth be known.
FIRST: Your TOS/EUA agreement states so… Read It! You can cry “bug” all you want! It is what it is!
SECOND: YOU DID have full access to the admin username AND password on the xml file.
Can I proove my accusations? Yes I can… - Server Logs do not lie. IP addresses and *nix timestamps are hard to beat.
Thank God for logs and archives! Bring it on.
Let the truth prevail!
PS: Wait… Anybody who wants to buy Webscribble stuff? Read This!
Here is the correspondence from ticket OCT-81747 (quoted using mrmwangi name instead of his real name):
mrmwangi:
I seem to have forgotten the admin login name and password. Can you point me to where it is located or how I can change it?
Web Scribble response:
This is what you have it set for currently. (USERNAME OMITTED) (PASSWORD OMITTED)
mrmwangi:
Please tell me you do not have a back door into my site… Could you explain how you got in?
Web Scribble response:
No. We have your FTP information on file and retrieved the administrative login information that way.
You had given us your FTP information earlier in another support request (I believe it was the one where you requested for us to install the software). That’s where we got it from. We didn’t want to waste time asking you for your FTP information, so we simply tried what you had already given us before. We then logged in to retrieve your password and sent it to you.
