Uploading my first new website

Hi

It might seem like a silly question, but I have just finished designing my first website designed in XHTML and CSS, using sitepoint books as training material, which works in apache 2.2
I designed this website to replace the existing website designed by others and hosted by others, they will takedown the current website and give me access to upload my website, thats where their help stops.

Can someone please inform me of what is a good program to upload my site and can someone please explain if there is any setup features that I need to understand to get this site working, (eg setup of files, any special considerations that I should be awere of.
sorry about this question, but I am on my own here and in virgin territory

Hi Tony, welcome to SitePoint!

There are lots of good ones—both free and commercial. A good free one is FileZilla. Then you have others that you can pay for, like Transmit (which is a great one to have if you are on a Mac).

If you are using a program like Dreamweaver or Aptana to prepare your files, they have inbuilt upload functionality.

There’s really not much you have to do. As long as the files are all ready and linked together properly (etc.), you just type in the username and password of the hosting account and press upload. It’s pretty simple.

Feel free to ask further questions.
