Transition from Modx to WordPress question

I have a very beginner knowledge of websites and my boss has tasked me to do this research.

We want to redesign an existing website.

The existing website is with a Modx Framework and we want to use Wordpress moving forward, we have already downloaded the template that we want to use but now we don’t know what to do next.

My boss was saying that since he doesn’t want to use anything (contentwise and theme) from the current website, we can just open a Wordpress account and create a new website.

My questions are, do we still need to access the Modx manager or is he right that we just create a new Wordpress account? How do we redirect it to the new website? Again, We have no intentions of using any content from the existing website, it is going to be from scratch.

Welcome to the forums, @francesa.

Have I understood you correctly that you intend to create an entirely new site on Wordpress and replace your existing site with it, keeping only the domain name the same? That’s simply a case of replacing one site with the other at your existing hosting.

You’re talking about a new WordPress account. Does that mean you are planning to use a wordpress.com site? If that’s the case, for a business I would recommend instead a self-hosted WordPress site using the downloaded WordPress CMS from wordpress.org.
