I’ve spent quite some time on the internet looking around at different hosts and review sites and I’m only getting more and more confused. I want to start an ecommerce site and am looking for a reliable host with good customer support, good on security, has enough web space for me to expand if the shop does well etc. - I can set up oscommerce and make some site pages myself, so that doesn’t specifically have to be included. But no host I’ve read about really jumps out at me as being the ‘one’ I’d really appreciate any suggestions.
CLOSED.
There is no “best” anything so the question is ridiculous and too open ended to be of any value.

DK
On the review sites like webhostingstuff you may check the most reviewed web hosts. I suppose that you can use their top as absolutely truth
- Chose your web application.
- According to the recuriments of web application chose several web hosting services.
- Compare their reviews and answers on some basic questions.
- Ask other people wht do they think about certain web application and certain web host.
I think that will help you to make right decision
HostGator is the best in my experience
Well there are many very good hosting providers in the market like Hostgator, Dreamhost etc… However, speaking from my personal experience perspective, I have a domain with Resellerclub and also have my hosting services with them, and it has been for the last 3 years now… They have simply been amazing with regards to webspace, 24/7 support and most importantly - Site Uptime (which is one of their best features till date - One of the top ranked webhosts) …! You can learn more about Resellerclub hosting HERE !
I would recommend
*HostGator
*BlueHost
*DreamHost
I would agree with you but only if you are offer web hosting. If you are running web shop I believe small or large VPS (depends on the size) will be more then enough.
Reseller account does give you more opportunity but in any way that is about reseller option.
For the personal (business) web site they both (shared and reseller) have the same opportunities.
Are you looking for UK or US hosting server, and whats your budget, for E-commerce site make sure you get the site on the server as per the country you target the market, if its UK go for UK hosting server and if its US go for US webhosting provider.
While a server may have 600 shared accounts, it might have 10 reseller accounts - so less chances of IP blockade, a bit faster server and so on due to less load. As well as releif from the shared hosting’s problems.
Reseller hosting is still shared hosting, so I don’t see the “relief”.
As for the fewer accounts per server, that’s a fair point, though it’s all about the price one is willing to pay, not some intrinsic quality of reseller accounts. A reseller account at $5 will still mean hundreds of them per server.
He is running a shop which will vertually require more resources in long or short terms as well as these will give him an independent platform.
We will suggest you to buy a reseller or VPS for the shop purpose.
Why do you think those would necessarily be better than shared hosting?

I hope you will agree that ‘reseller’ account gives more leg-room and more freedom than a shared account to manage the hosting.
As OP is running a shop, my intention was to help him so he can get rid of with some basic troubles of shared hosting.
Thanks and best regards.
We are with them for last 4-5 years - good support, relaible hosts and good uptime. They are not cheat that is best part of them.

Still, I don’t see how a reseller is essentially different from shared hosting.
As for him requiring more resources, that largely depends on the success of his business. Plenty of stores have zero visitors. Yet I know a store that was featured on Discovery’s “How it’s made”, and is still hosted on a $8 shared hosting account.
I’m not disagreeing with you as I have no experience with either of those two hosts, but I am curious as to why you believe they are better than anyone else.
We will suggest you to buy a reseller or VPS for the shop purpose.
In our view 247-host.com and yeahhost.com are better than anyone else.
Good luck.
Three hosts that I recommend for something like this:
-
eApps: I’ve been using them for years and they have never let me down. Stellar service and great uptime. www.eapps.com
-
MediaTemple: I’ve been using them for just over a year and my favorite part is the control panel. The uptime is pretty good but lately they’ve had some system-wide password issues. To their credit, they’ve resolved those issues. AlexDawson has made some posts on here about MediaTemple and given a much more thorough review. www.mediatemple.net
-
Rackspace Cloud: Simply the industry leader when you need reliability and scalability. Get ready to pay for it though. www.rackspacecloud.com
I too have done some research on this topic and I find that WinWorld.com has really good customer service. They know exactly what they are doing and tell you everything up front with all of your options and they help you save money. They are a a Christian company I believe and have always been easy to deal with and down to earth and they have lots of options for eCommerce. I would definitely check them out.
You know ecomerce to ecomerce is different. And in this case I would recommend you guys talk about certain web application not in general.
That is very important.
