I’m looking at building a site for a UK based client that will sell tickets to events. They’ll need to take online sales, and be able to easily see how sales are looking for future events, as well as view summaries of sales for past events.
I managed to build something like this with ExpressionEngine, but am now thinking that I don’t really want the responsibility if the site crashes and they loose bookings…
So, I’m looking for a hosted, software-as-a-service way of doing it. I’m sure there must be companies that will host the selling tickets/keeping records of orders side of things, connect to your payment gateway, and perhaps have APIs for ExpressionEngine or Wordpress etc. Ideally we should be able to have a fair bit of integration between the site and the hosted service. That way I could just build the site and leave the more technically frightening agreement (and potential lawsuits!) between the client and a company who specialises in this stuff.
Any ideas would be very welcome.

Ah ok - by that I meant that they should be able to view sales for events that have passed, as well as upcoming events.
I’d been thinking that a specialist ticketing system might be more appropriate here because of the requirements of the project. I should probably have ben more specific about what we’re looking for:
They have several venues, with different genres of events going on.
They should be able to add new events by selecting from a list of previously entered acts, choose a venue from their set of venues, enter the other details.
The website should then be completely flexible in displaying, say, a calendar of events from venue A, or all upcoming events in genre X at venue B. It should also be able to offer site membership that would reduce the ticket price by a set percentage, and accept discount codes. The visitor shouldn’t feel like they ever leave the site, except possibly for a payment page.
My client should be able to check sales figures for past and upcoming events, preferably from the same place that they input the events.
As I say, I was able to build something like this with a CMS and a shopping cart, but I don’t want it to be to reliant on MY code - I’d rather it be a contract between my client and a company who specialises in this stuff. I realise this isn’t going to be free - my client will have to pay a set up fee, ongoing fee or both, but I’m not sure what the options are for this kind of thing.
Anyone used a service like this?
