Reconsideration request

I am helping a friend who needs to file a reconsideration request following a Google penalty on her site. After that we will be using the disavow tool.

However, when I try to submit the reconsideration request I just get the message ‘Hm. Something isn’t right. We’re checking into it now.’

Don’t know what has caused this or what to do next. Can anyone help with advice?

Sounds like a problem on Google’s end. Try again later.

Will do, although I’ve been trying all day.
A quick Google suggested that there was a word limit - but I would have thought this would have been stated either on the form or the error message if this were the case.

Google gets 5000 reconsideration requests per week so it will take some time to review your site. I think, you are one of them and you have to check whole things if you have been hit by any algorithm or by manual action. First disavow the links which looks doubtful. Try to make latest site structure with one creative design then remove the whole old content and put new informative content. After doing this all things you can request for reconsideration because removing only links by using disavow tool is not just enough.

I hope it will work for you.

I thought that I had to add the reconsideration request before the disavowed links file. Have I got it wrong?
The site also has been cleaned up and is now Google friendly. The problem is that Google sends an error message when I submit the reconsideration request.
I suspect my wording is too long as it is still throwing up the same message so I’ll put the list of links I’ve removed online and add a link to the reconsideration request - hopefully that will work.
