Project Management?

This one is focused to all the web guys that work in any size of team.
I’d like to know what Project Management software everyone is using and perhaps reasons for the choice.

I’ve used Microsoft Project 2003 and 2007 on two projects in the past, because I was forced to in college projects. I like using it, it’s a great project management application but I don’t think I’m cut out for being a project manager because I don’t really like all the Gantt charts, PERT charts, network diagrams, CPA/M, and all that stuff.

I would agree with NetNerd85’s suggestion of something custom. You’re a professional software developer so you shouldn’t have a problem with creating your own custom project management application

I am using VisionProject. It is definitely the best tool that I have found for my purpose. What was important for me was to include document management with version management as well. This is solved quite neatly in this system.

I’ve used dotProject at 2 companies I worked for, I would not recommend dotProject. I would go with something custom. You can develop specific task oriented functionality to automate processes with your own system. Take 3 days off to develop something simple then spend a couple of hours every week or whatever to upgrade it.

Alex, you working for 37 Signals now? :stuck_out_tongue:

Basecamp by 37 Signals, It’s run via the web (so you can access it anywhere), it’s scalable (and works with their other great products) and it does the job well.

I use a free calendar I printed out, found the calendar via search engine. Great tool, right in front of me when I’m at the office

I’m in the middle of developing my own CRM/Project Management/Order management system thingyo… should be good, will be a Adobe AIR/Flex and PHP application, just need more days to spend on it!

basecamphq definitely is effective. Very organized and user friendly even if it doesn’t look like classy or something. My team loves it.

Nope I don’t work for them, but I use their products for my freelance business.

Thanks all,

I have using dotProject and phpProjeck and a few others similar too. Not really dabbled with MS Project too much though.
Wonder how convered this market is for decent management software really.
