Any Web-Based Project Management Systems?

Hey guys, I’ve got my hands full these days, juggling up to 8-10 web projects at a time and I need a really organized way to manage daily “to do” lists, check off tasks completed and track overall project progress and deadlines. I also need some way to view all clients and their projects, including prospective leads with notes regarding their project.

Up to this point I’ve been managing the individual tasks for each project on a daily basis by writing myself “To Do” lists in Notepad. I’ve been doing the same for writing notes on new prospects. It’s becoming a mess and there are too many files to sort through now.

There HAS to be a better way! Do you guys know of any great free or paid solutions to handle what I need to do? I don’t want a crazy system that I need a manual to use. I just want something simple.

I’ve been using the Freckle for my time tracking, and I’d love to find a similar style project management tool that just works just as intuitively.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

basecamp is a great project management tool.

Would you like a hosted solution or would you want to install the software on your own servers?

PS: I find Google Wave to be great for Project Management. In fact ThoughtWorks has created a product called Mingle which leverages Google Wave for real time collaborative project management.

I am open to either personal hosted or 3rd-party hosted solutions. I have my own server so either one is an option.

Collabtive can be a free option you would want to look at.

http://www.dotproject.net/ is a free solution, you have to install it.

I only use it for tracking time, then running a report at the end of the month. But it allows you to add projects, tasks, and assign tasks to an individual etc etc

Basecamp, as mentioned above, is by far the most popular, and can be integrated with other systems, like Freshbooks for time tracking and invoicing.

For something on a smaller scale, Evernote lets you keep stickies both on the web and synced with your PC, so you always have it whether you are online or offline.

I mix Basecamp with [URL=“http://docs.google.com/”]Google Docs. Docs is great for sharing information and collaborative editing.

If you want something VERY simple (which does the job), I recommend “Remember the Milk”, it’s a third party hosted to-do list manager which you can simply stack up all your tasks into. Granted it’s not technically a project manager but if you (like me) rely on lots of useful to-do lists (in preference to a full management suite), it’s second to none. Of course Basecamp is the obvious choice if you want a collaboration / management suite for you and your clients to mingle in.
