Problem with DNS

Hi guys. I haven’t been to sitepoint in awhile but it’s nice to be back  I am in desperate need of some help! Forgive me if this is posted in the wrong forum but this seemed to be the most appropriate one.

I registered the domain allatoncepro.com for a friend’s business through Namecheap.com. Initially I set up a static page on my server to serve as a placeholder while I developed his site and waited for him to purchase hosting. I used their forwarding service which sets up a frame that shows my placeholder page when someone would visit the site. Eventually he got hosting and I updated the name servers with those that the host gave me to use. Everything works fine except occasionally the website will revert back to forwarding with that framed URL. Then sometimes it will go back to normal.

I’ve had the issue on multiple computers from multiple connection sources. From my remedial knowledge on the DNS system I speculate that there is a domain name server that maybe didn’t get updated when I updated the records and occasionally it will resolve through that name server, and other times it will resolve to one that is up to date.

I tried reverting transferring the DNS back to Namecheap and then back to the ones for the host in hopes that it will refresh the records but I am still having the same problem!

Any thoughts are appreciated…

How long ago did you update the nameservers for the domain name?

It can somtimes take a few days for nameserver changes to fully propagate down the Internet.

You may also want to restart your computer to clear out any local DNS cache.

It’s possible that a DNS server upstream of your connection is still using old cached information. Unfortunately, there’s not really anything you can do about this. If you can identify the affect DNS server, you might be able to contact the administrator of that server and inquire as to why it is still using the cached information (assuming the nameserver changes have had time to fully propagate), but it’s really out of your realm to perform this action.

Please try to clean cache of the browser, temp. web pages, cookies and so on.
Reboot the system
and try.

May help
good luck

Probably the best thing to do is to contact your host and ask them explicitly what nameservers they should be using.

Whatever nameservers you use at your registrar needs to line up with the authoritative nameservers in the DNS zone on their DNS server.

They should be able to tell you this. And they should be able to diagnose if there is any DNS issues with your current set up.

I’m sure it’s not an issue of the site being cached as I’ve tried accessing it from a computer that hadn’t previously accessed the website and still had the issue.

I re-updated the nameservers (transferred the DNS back to Namecheap and then back to the host) about a week ago.

One thing I think could be related: The nameservers I got from the host initially were different than the ones in the welcome email. Also, before I received the welcome email, I realized that those initial nameservers they gave weren’t working and found another set to try in their knowledgebase.

So before I actually got the correct nameservers, I updated the records about 2 to 3 times with incorrect info. Could this have something to do with it?

A full reset of the browser and system should remedy this. I’ve had this happen twice before and a reset did the job. Good luck.

Also if you are using A records for your domain name you need to remember and check if name servers are set to default values of your domain name registrar.
