New Host

Hi Chaps, ok, a very open question, but im loking for a new host. The client wants to move and initally signed up to 1&1…however not only is their support terrible, simple apache rewrites fail…so in a last minute panic i thought a post here.

For the budget about £10 a month
With the usual mysql, backups, unlimited mail (inc imap), unlimted traffic etc etc

The two main things are uptime/speed and some kind of techical support, either that of live chat or a tel number.

The client only has one site, so multi account isn’t important.

Its seems that Dreamhost have a nice spec, however if i understand, over the last 6 months their service has slipped a bit.

Thanks in advance

I’ve been using a company called eApps for the least 4 years and love them. Haven’t had a single complaint. The VPS plans start at around $10/month. Support it fantastic and I have complete control over my server.

10 pounds are enough to get a quality Shared Hosting, but aren’t enough for a reliable VPS hosting service. Do you need an American host or an UK or EU based service?

The company is UK based. Ive been looked a shared host with Clook. Ive been looking around and havent found anything negative about them…well, not yet!

I believe that is more then enough. BTW if you have US web host with good network provider you won’t have any problems with site load in UK

Its seems that Dreamhost have a nice spec, however if i understand, over the last 6 months their service has slipped a bit.

I’ve had an account with them for about 8 months now. The beginning wasn’t all that nice, with the server being slow and getting slower. However, back in September or so my account was moved to another server (I did not request it). Performance is quite good now.

Uptime still suffered, but seems to have improved in the last couple of months: http://www.pingdom.com/reports/xdibiaa9tyvu/check_overview/?name=Dreamhost1.

If your audience mostly UK, I suggest to choose UK based hosting. Unless you don’t find any suitable with all your constraints.

That is good idea. But why pay more for the same service? US and Canadian hosts are cheaper then the same in UK

Many believe for SEO reasons location does matter… Whether that is true or not I’m not sure, but if it is the case then hosting in a country local to you would be more beneficial.

Could you please explain this more? what exactly your setting requirements?

Thanks and regards

I was with Clook many years ago…around 2003 I think…excellent service then.
As for now, the only one I have recent experience of, is Innohosting. I put one of my web clients with them and they’ve been excellent.

I do not think that server location means something for good SEO. But if you feel comfortable knowing that server location is very important you can base your choice on it
