Music Vampire's Corner

Delicate and powerful and passionate. The music, the instrument and the woman.

That’s how all women are :wink:

Here’s a tribute to them :slight_smile:

José Carreras - En Aranjuez Con Tu Amor

And a bit more of modern… classics.

Natasha Morozova - Polovtsian Dances -Borodin - Prince Igor

Dutch band with a Spanish Portugese guest singer. I like this song a lot, and she sings sooo nice :slight_smile:

PS. “Dansen aan zee” means “Dancing at the sea” (or shoreline? not sure …)

Fantastic atmosphere! Beautiful song!
My kind of concert. Thanks ScallioXTX :slight_smile:

One thing: she, Christina Branco, appears to be Portuguese? Also sings some (most) parts in Portuguese? :slight_smile:
She has a fado and jazz background.

You’re right, Portugese. I got confused :slight_smile:

Alright, enough ah all dat Euro music. Is time fuh some soca!

//youtu.be/W4xS1IpYlII

Admittedly there isn’t a whole lot of depth to Soca lyrics these days. It’s more meant to be a nice, danceable beat for people to get on bad to at Carnival and fetes.

But what a nice beat it is!

The stuff on the page before (“I’m a Slave”, etc.) is Calypso or Kaiso. Soca is more party music, while Kaiso is more social commentary. Personally I prefer Kaiso.

Then we have Chutney…

//youtu.be/tIOrwr4hh9w

The song is in Hindi, by the way. I have no idea what he’s saying.

And we have crossovers…

//youtu.be/Uto_SXQJIxo

It’s Chutney with Hindi singing and a Soca beat.

Thanks Shaun!

Not sure about Chutney (it seems to look like a Romanian manea singer to me, not among my preferred music, quite the contrary), but all music has its place and value.

The first one really does make you want to go to a Carnival! And the rhythm on the third one is insane! I liked it the most :slight_smile:

hahahaha, Trust me, no-one’s sure about Chutney.

Mehboob Mere, a song from the film Fiza (which I started watching with my mother-in-law but had to stop… hope to finish it when I’m back):

First saw it on YouTube as “May He Poop?”, a soramimi of the song, and really liked the sound of the song.

I dunno who the woman is supposed to be… the first woman you see, with her hair pulled back, is Fiza who is traveling in search of her missing brother.

In the beginning of the film there’s a prayer-song at a mosque (a Sufi shrine originally called the Dargah) with all these old men singing… if I can find it I’ll post it because it’s so lovely.

Oh, found it!
Piya Haji Ali which is mostly sounds like a prayer about Allah blessing us or something. It’s very sad in the movie because the mother is there (in dark blue/black) and she’s praying for the return of her missing son. She imagines he’s there behind her during the song… so does her daughter Fiza (in red). Very sad.

:rofl: Nice thing about soramimi !!!

Here’s something related, Engrish to English :wink:

Moonspell - Firewalking (misheard lyrics)

Yes, Bollywood tends to appeal to your soft side using tragedies of life, since decades.

One other beautiful song, related to sadness and prayer, another one from the few I see my soul in:

Karunesh - Returning To Now

The beginning, the man chanting, is just exceptional.

And, to be fair to Moonspell, a band I do appreciate since my youth, here’s the song with the true lyrics:

Moonspell - Firewalking

Another magic moment I see my soul. Somewhat different.

Reminds me of the Nightwish misheard lyrics : ) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gg5_mlQOsUQ

Though they really have nothing on Benny Lava http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZA1NoOOoaNw luv “benny lava”!
