Looking for a good UPS. Is the APC BR1000G right for me?

I’m looking to buy a UPS for my home office. Can’t afford to lose valuable hours (or equipment) to my power company’s shoddy service any longer. I need a reliable UPS that lasts a few years that doesn’t burn up, isn’t loud, and doesn’t damage my equipment. Runs for at least 5 min - 30 min on battery would be ideal.

I found the APC BR1000G to be (what I think) a good match for my needs.

Does this meet my energy requirements? It should, but I’m running it by you experts anyway
Is sinewave an issue with my system? I read online that some Dell machines have issues
Do you have any professional/personal experience with this model? Good or Bad, please share.
What other UPS systems would you recommend?

My Equipment

  • 15" Dell Studio Laptop - 1558 (intel i5, 500 GB / 7200 rpm HD, integrated grfx card)
  • 1 Speaker system (small sub-woofer [can be held easily in 1 small hand] with 2 smaller satellites - adapter says 120V/25W)
  • 1 Flow Modem (Arris)
  • 1 Wireless Router (D-link - DIR-600)
  • Second 22-24" LCD LED Monitor in the future

Does this meet my energy requirements?

  • It should be more than sufficient. You have rather modest needs. The monitor used to a be a big draw, but that was back in the CRT days, so anymore, it’s just the computer that draws a bunch of power; however, I’m speaking of desktops - laptops are designed to sip power sparingly to extend battery life.

Is sinewave an issue with my system?

  • I can’t imagine a laptop power pack having an issue with a clean source of alternating current, search for info on your specific model.

Do you have any professional/personal experience with this model?

  • Nope

What other UPS systems would you recommend?

  • APC is the leading manufacturer of UPS devices, you’ve made a good choice.

Well, the only things that need power there to keep you up and running are actually the modem and the router, everything else has batteries (laptop) or is tangential (monitors and keyboards).

I’ve used various models of APC UPS devices over the years, haven’t had a significant complaint about any of them. Never used that model in particular.
